`Ali b. `Abdullah al-Warraq narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us from Muhammad b. Abd al-Jabbar from Muhammad b. Isma`il b. Bazi` from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from Hisham b. Salim from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad . He said:

One of the companions of the Prophet (s) said to the Prophet: O Messenger of Allah! Why do we find [characteristics] in our children that we do not find in ourselves? So, he said: Because they are from you, and you are not from them.
