My father narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim b. Hashim narrated to us from his father from al-Hasan b. Mahbub from `Abdullah b. Sinan from Muhammad b. al-Munkadir. He said:

`Awn b. Abdullah b. Masud became ill, so I went to visit him, so he said: Shall I not narrate a hadith from `Abdullah b. Mas`ud to you? I said: Of course. He said: `Abdullah said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (s) [one day] when he smiled. So, I said: Why do you smile, O Messenger of Allah? He said: I am astonished at the believer and his fear of illness. If he knew of the good deeds he reaped from illness, he would want to continue being ill until he meets his Lord.
