Ahmad b. al-Hasan al-Qattan narrated to us. He said: Al-Hasan b. `Ali al-Sikri narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Zakariyya al-Jawhari narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. al-Dahhak narrated to us. He said: Hisham b. Muhammad narrated to us from his father. Hisham said: Some of it was narrated to me by Abu Mikhnaf Lut b. Yahya and another person from the scholars regarding some words between al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Abi Talib and al-Walid b. `Uqba (the maternal half-brother of `Uthman b. `Affan).

Al-Hasan said to him: I do not blame you for insulting `Ali , as he lashed you eighty times for drinking wine, and he killed your father in the time of the Messenger of Allah (s) in the Day of Badr, and, in another verse, Allah called him a believer and called you a transgressor (fasiq). The poet said, regarding you and `Ali : Allah revealed in His Book to us A recitation that classifies al-Walid in the position of disbelief And classifies `Ali in the position of faith, A believer who worships Allah Is not like a traitorous transgressor. Then, after a short while, al-Walid would be summoned, And `Ali will await the recompense, `Ali will be rewarded with Gardens, And al-Walid will earn his consequence.
