Ahmad b. Ziyad b. Ja`far al-Hamadani narrated to us. He said: Ibrahim b. Muhammad al-Thaqafi narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Abdullah al-Kufi narrated to us. He said: Hammam narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Jamil al-Raqqi narrated to us. He said: Layth narrated to us from Mujahid from `Abdullah b. `Abbas. He said:

We were sitting in a gathering place belonging to a companion of the Messenger of Allah (s), and the Messenger of Allah (s) was with us. We saw the Messenger of Allah (s) pointing toward the sky. So, we looked, and we saw a cloud proceeding [toward us]. So, he said to it: “Come forth.” Then, it proceeded [further]. Then, he said to it: “Come forth.” Then, it proceeded. Then, he said to it: “Come forth.” Then, it proceeded. Then, we saw the Messenger of Allah (s) stand on his feet, and his hand reached into the cloud until we saw the whiteness of the armpits of the Messenger of Allah (s). Then, he took a white vessel filled with fresh dates out of it. So, the Prophet (s) ate from the vessel, and the vessel glorified [Allah] in the hand of the Messenger of Allah (s). Then, he passed it over to `Ali b. Abi Talib . So, `Ali ate from the vessel, and the vessel glorified [Allah] in the hand of `Ali . So, a man said: O Messenger of Allah! You ate from the vessel, then you passed it over to `Ali b. Abi Talib! Then, Allah caused the vessel to speak, and it said: There is no god but Allah, the Creator of darkness and light. Know, O people, that I am the gift of the Truthful to His Speaking Prophet. None eat from me except a prophet or a deputy of a prophet.
