My father narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us. He said: Salama b. al-Khattab narrated to us. He said: Abu’l Tahir Muhammad b. Tasnim al-Warraq narrated to us from `Abd al-Rahman b. Kathir from his father from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers . He said:

The Messenger of Allah (s) said to his companions one day: O my companions! Surely, Allah orders you to the wilaya of `Ali b. Abi Talib and to follow his example, for he is your master and your Imam after me. Do not dispute him, for you will have disbelieved; and do not split away from him, for you will have become misguided. Surely, Allah has made `Ali a sign [distinguishing] between faith and hypocrisy, for whoever loves him is a believer, and whoever hates him is a hypocrite. Surely, Allah has made `Ali my deputy, the light post of guidance after me, the place of my secret, the repository of my knowledge, and my vicegerent among my people. I complain to Allah about his oppressors from my Nation after me.
