H9Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father form Yusuf b. `Aqil from Isma`il b. Rahuwayh. He said: When Abu’l Hasan al-Rida fulfilled [his duties in] Nishapur, and wanted to journey from it to al-Ma’mun, the people of hadith came to him and said to him: 'O son of the Messenger of Allah! Would you leave us without narrating a hadith that we could benefit from?' He was sitting in a howdah, so he raised his head and said:

'I heard my father Musa b. Ja`far say: I heard my father Ja`far b. Muhammad say: I heard my father Muhammad b. `Ali say: I heard my father `Ali b. al-Husayn say: I heard my father al-Husayn b. `Ali say: I heard my father Amir al-Mu’minin `Ali b. Abi Talib say: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: I heard Gabriel say: I heard Allah the Mighty and Majestic say: “There is no god but Allah (la ilaha illallah)” is My fortress. Whoever enters My fortress is safe from My punishment.' When the caravan continued, he called its conditions to us: 'I am from its conditions.'
