My father narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to me from Ahmad b. Muhammad from al-Hasan b. Mahbub from Abi Jamila from Jabir from Abi Ja`far al-Baqir . He said:

An angel from the angels passed by a man standing at the door to a house. So, the angel said to him: “O servant of Allah! What brought you to the door of this house?” He said: “I have a brother in it, and I want to greet him.” So, the angel said: “Is he a part of your immediate family, or do you need something from him?” He said: So, he said: “No, we are not related, nor do I need anything from him – only the brotherhood of Islam and his sanctity [as a believer]. I [only wish to] pledge myself to him and greet him in [the name of] Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.” So, the angel said: “I am a messenger of Allah to you. He recites the salaam to you and says: ‘It is only I that you wanted [to greet], and I that you wanted to pledge to, so I have made Paradise obligatory for you, and I have relieved you from My anger, and I have delivered you from the Fire.’”
