Muhammad b. al-Qasim narrated to us. He said: Yusuf b. Muhammad b. Ziyad and `Ali b. Muhammad b. Yasar narrated to us from their fathers from al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Muhammad b. `Ali b. Musa b. Ja`far b. Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. `Ali b. Abi Talib from his father from his forefathers . He said:

The Messenger of Allah (s) said to one of his companions that day: O `Abdullah! Love in the way of Allah, hate in the way of Allah, befriend in the way of Allah, and oppose in the way of Allah, for the wilaya of Allah is only achieved through this. A man cannot taste faith, even if he increases his prayer and his fasting, until he does all this. In this day and age, the people are brotherly over this world – they love one another over it, and they hate one another over it; yet it will not make them free of the need for Allah. So, it was said to him: How will I know that I have befriended and opposed in the way of Allah? Who is the friend of Allah, so that I may befriend him; and who is His enemy, so that I may oppose him? So, the Messenger of Allah (s) pointed to `Ali for him and said: Do you see this? So, he said: Of course. He said: His friend is the friend of Allah, so befriend him. His enemy is the enemy of Allah, so oppose him. Befriend his friend, even if he killed your father and your son; and oppose his enemy, even if he is your father or your son.
