13. My father (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sa'd ibn Abdullah told me from Ya'qub ibn Yazid, from Muhammad ibn Abi 'Umayr, from Mu'awiyah ibn Wahb, who said: 'I entered upon Abu Abdullah (peace be upon him) while he was in his place of prayer. I sat until he completed his prayer, and I heard him conversing with his Lord, saying: 'O You who have honored us with dignity, who have promised us intercession, who have entrusted us with the message, who have made us heirs of the Prophets, who have sealed the previous nations with us, who have granted us the will, who have given us knowledge of what has passed and what will remain, and who have made the hearts of people incline toward us, forgive me and my brothers and the visitors of the grave of my grandfather, Abu Abdullah Al-Husayn ibn Ali (peace be upon him), those who have spent their wealth and dedicated their bodies seeking our goodness and hoping for what You have in connection with us, and the joy they have brought to Your Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and their response to our command, and the anger they have directed toward our enemy. They sought thereby Your pleasure, so protect them with Your satisfaction, and safeguard them by night and by day, and grant them the best of successors among their families and children who were left behind, and accompany them and save them from the evil of every tyrant and every weak one among Your creation, and from the evil of the devils of mankind and jinn. Grant them the best of what they have hoped for from You during their estrangement from their homelands, and what they preferred over their children and bodies and families and relatives. O Allah, our enemies have blamed them for leaving, but that has not stopped them from rising and coming to us, despite the opposition against them. Have mercy on those faces that have been changed by the sun, and have mercy on those cheeks that have turned over the grave of Abu Abdullah Al-Husayn (peace be upon him), and have mercy on those eyes that have shed tears for us, and have mercy on those hearts that have grieved and burned for us, and have mercy on that cry that was for us. O Allah, I entrust to You those souls and those bodies until You grant them to drink from the pond on the Day of Thirst.' He continued to invoke this supplication while in prostration. When he finished, I said to him, 'May I be your ransom! If what I heard from you was for someone who does not know Allah, I would think that the Fire would never touch him at all. By Allah, I have wished that I had visited him and not made the pilgrimage.' He said to me, 'How close you are to him! What is preventing you from visiting him, O Mu'awiyah? And why do you abandon the pilgrimage?' I said, 'May I be your ransom! I did not know that the matter would reach this.' He said, 'O Mu'awiyah, who invokes for his visitors in the heavens more than those who invoke for them on earth? Do not abandon it for fear of anyone. Whoever abandons it out of fear will see the regret for what they wish they could have done with their own hands. Do you not love for Allah to see you among those who are called to by the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)? Do you not love to be among those who shake hands with the angels tomorrow? Do you not love to be among those who will be greeted by the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) tomorrow?'"
