My father said: Sa`d ibn `Abd Allah said on the authority of al-Qasim ibn Muhammad alIsfahani, on the authority of Sulayman ibn Dawud al-Minqari, on the authority of Hafs ibn Ghiyath or someone else that I asked Abu `Abd Allah al-Sadiq about the Word of Allah, the Mighty and High: Certainly, he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord.2 He replied:

“He saw Jibra`il. His thighs were covered in pearls like dew drops on plants. He had six hundred wings. He filled the space between the sky and the Earth.”
