و معنى السلالة الصفوة من كل شيء، يقال سلالة وسليل، وفي الحديث: قال النبي ص: اللهم اسقِ عبد الرحمن من سليل الجنة، ويقال السليل هو صافي شرابها، وإنما قيل له سليل لأنه سُلَّ حتى خَلُص، وهو فعيل بمعنى المفعول، قالوا في تفسير قول الله عز وجل: ولقد خلقنا الإنسان من سلالة من طين، يعني أنه من صفوة طين الأرض، والسلالة النتاج، سُلَّ من أمه أي نُتِج، وقالت هند بنت أسماء وكانت تحت الحجاج بن يوسف الثقفي: وهل هند إلا مهرة عربية، سليلة أفراس تجللها بغل، فإن نتجت مهرا كريما فبالحري، وإن يك أقرافا فما فعل الفحل، وروي: فما جنى الفحل، والسليل المنتوج، والسليلة المنتوجة كأنه يريد النتاج الخالص الصافي، وقيل للحسن والحسين والأئمة من بعدهما صلوات الله عليهم أجمعين: سلالة رسول الله ص، لأنهم الصفوة من ولده عليه السلام، وهذا معنى العترة والذرية والسلالة في لغة العرب، ونسأل الله التوفيق للصواب في جميع الأمور برحمته.
‘Salaalat’ means the gist of something. It is also called ‘Salaalah’ and ‘Saleel’. The Holy Prophet ﷺ has said: “O Allah, quench the thirst of Abdur Rahman from the Salil (cold water) of Paradise.” The water in Paradise is called Salil because it is the purest form of drinking thing. Thus this verb is in the form of subject. And the verse: «And certainly We created man of an extract of clay» (23:12) In this verse Salala means the purest soil of the earth. Salalah also means fruit. That is when a person is born from his mother and it is as if he has come as a result of her.
Hind binte Asma wife of Hajjaj bin Yusuf Thaqafi has composed the following: And what can Hinda be except a mare of the Arabian stock? She is from the stock of the pure horses whom a mule has dominated. Thus if this mare of Arabian stock gives birth to a pure blood horse, what a lucky thing it would be. If impure ones are born it is the fault of male. It is also narrated about these couplets that: The male has given birth to it. Saleel means result and Saleelah means a result which is not having any impurity.
