The Ruby and Emerald
5 Aḥadīth
Ḥadīth 1

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنِ الرِّضَا ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ تَخَتَّمُوا بِالْيَوَاقِيتِ فَإِنَّهَا تَنْفِي الْفَقْرَ .

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ali ibn Ma’bad from al-Husayn ibn Khalid who has said the following: “Al-Rida’ (a.s.), has said that abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), would say, ‘You must use ruby as a ring, it disallows poverty.’”

Ḥadīth 2

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفُضَيْلِ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ (عليهم السلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ (صلى الله عليه وآله) تَخَتَّمُوا بِالْيَوَاقِيتِ فَإِنَّهَا تَنْفِي الْفَقْرَ .

2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from Muhammad ibn al-Fudayl from Abu al-Hassan from his father from his grandfather who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah (saww) has said, ‘You must use rubies as rings; they disallow poverty.’”

Ḥadīth 3

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا وَ هُوَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ وَ يُلَقَّبُ سِكْبَاجَ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ صَاحِبِ الْأَنْزَالِ وَ كَانَ يَقُومُ بِبَعْضِ أُمُورِ الْمَاضِي ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ لِي يَوْماً وَ أَمْلَى عَلَيَّ مِنْ كِتَابٍ التَّخَتُّمُ بِالزُّمُرُّدِ يُسْرٌ لَا عُسْرَ فِيهِ .

3. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Harun ibn Muslim from a man from a certain persons of our people, al-Hassan ibn Ali ibn al-Fadl called Sikbaj from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr, Sahib al-’Anzal who worked for certain tasks of al-Madiy (a.s.), has said the following: “He (the Imam), Alayhi al-Salam, one day said to me dictating in a book, ‘Using emerald in a ring is a comfort which is free of difficulties.’”

Ḥadīth 4

سَهْلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الدِّهْقَانِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ تَخَتَّمُوا بِالْيَوَاقِيتِ فَإِنَّهَا تَنْفِي الْفَقْرَ .

4. Sahl ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Dihqan ‘Ubayd Allah from al-Husayn ibn Khalid who has said the following: “I once heard abu al-Hassan, Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘You must use ruby in the ring; it disallows poverty.’”

Ḥadīth 5

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ يُسْتَحَبُّ التَّخَتُّمُ بِالْيَاقُوتِ .

5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Bakr ibn Muhammad who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘It is Mustahab (desirable) to use ruby as a ring.’”
