Hunting During the Night
3 Aḥadīth

محمد بن يحيى، عن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى، عن أحمد بن محمد بن أبي نصر قال: سألت الرضا عليه السلام عن طروق الطير بالليل في وكرها، فقال: لا بأس بذلك (1). أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى، عن علي بن أحمد بن أشيم، عن صفوان بن يحيى، عن أبي الحسن الرضا عليه السلام مثله.


1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr who has said the following: “I once asked al-Rida’ (a.s), about hunting birds at night in their nests. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not unlawful.’” Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa has narrated from Ahmad ibn ‘Ushaym from Safwan ibn Yahya from abu al-Hassan al-Rida; ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has narrated a similar Hadith.

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفُضَيْلِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) لَا تَأْتُوا الْفِرَاخَ فِي أَعْشَاشِهَا وَ لَا الطَّيْرَ فِي مَنَامِهِ حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ وَ مَا مَنَامُهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ اللَّيْلُ مَنَامُهُ فَلَا تَطْرُقْهُ فِي مَنَامِهِ حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ وَ لَا تَأْتُوا الْفَرْخَ فِي عُشِّهِ حَتَّى يَرِيشَ وَ يَطِيرَ فَإِذَا طَارَ فَأَوْتِرْ لَهُ قَوْسَكَ وَ انْصِبْ لَهُ فَخَّكَ .


2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah, from al-Hassan ibn Ali from Muhammad ibn al-Fudayl, from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Do not go to the baby birds in their nests at night or to the birds during their sleep [until the morning].’ A man then asked, ‘What is during their sleep, O Messenger of Allah?’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘Night is their sleep, so do not enter in its sleep until the morning. Do not go to the baby birds in their nests until its feathers grow to fly. When it flies then aim your bow at it and fix for it your net.’”

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ شَمُّونٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ مِسْمَعٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّهُ قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) عَنْ إِتْيَانِ الطَّيْرِ بِاللَّيْلِ وَ قَالَ ( عليه السلام ) إِنَّ اللَّيْلَ أَمَانٌ لَهَا .


3. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn al-Hassan ibn Shammun from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman from Misma‘ who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, prohibited hunting birds during the night, saying that the night is sanctuary for them.’”
