Tahdhīb al-Aḥkām

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ اَلنَّضْرِ اَلْخَزَّازِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شِمْرٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ:» قَالَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ لِجَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ» يَا جَابِرُ هَذَا شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ مَنْ صَامَ نَهَارَهُ وَ قَامَ وِرْداً مِنْ لَيْلِهِ وَ عَفَّ بَطْنُهُ وَ فَرْجُهُ وَكَفَّ لِسَانَهُ خَرَجَ مِنْ ذُنُوبِهِ كَخُرُوجِهِ مِنَ اَلشَّهْرِ« فَقَالَ جَابِرٌ يَا رَسُولَ اَللَّهِ مَا أَحْسَنَ هَذَا اَلْحَدِيثَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ» يَا جَابِرُ وَمَا أَشَدَّ هَذِهِ اَلشُّرُوطَ««.

Muhammad ibn Yaqub, from Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from Ahmad ibn al-Nadr al-Khazzaz, from Amr ibn Shimr, from Jabir ibn Yazid, from Abu Ja’far (a.s), peace be upon him, who said: Imam (a.s) said: “The Messenger of Allah (swt), may Allah (swt) bless him and his family, said to Jabir ibn Abdullah, ‘O Jabir, this is the month of Ramadan. Whoever fasts its day, stands for a portion of worship from its night, keeps his stomach and his private part chaste, and restrains his tongue, exits from his sins just as he exits from the month.’ – meaning end of the month of Ramadan. So Jabir asked: “O Messenger of Allah (swt), how excellent this hadith is.” Then the Messenger of Allah (swt), may Allah (swt) bless him and his family, said: “O Jabir, and how severe these conditions are.”

اَلْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ اَلْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا عَلَيْهِمَا اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ اَللَّيَالِي اَلَّتِي يُسْتَحَبُّ فِيهَا اَلْغُسْلُ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ» لَيْلَةُ تِسْعَ عَشْرَةَ وَ لَيْلَةُ إِحْدَى وَ عِشْرِينَ وَ لَيْلَةُ ثَلاَثٍ وَعِشْرِينَ« وَقَالَ» فِي لَيْلَةِ تِسْعَ عَشْرَةَ يُكْتَبُ فِيهَا وَفْدُ اَلْحَاجِّ وَ» فِيهٰا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ« وَلَيْلَةُ إِحْدَى وَ عِشْرِينَ رُفِعَ فِيهَا عِيسَى عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ وَ فِيهَا قُبِضَ وَصِيُّ مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ وَ فِيهَا قُبِضَ أَمِيرُ اَلْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ وَ لَيْلَةُ ثَلاَثٍ وَ عِشْرِينَ وَ هِيَ لَيْلَةُ اَلْجُهَنِيِّ وَ حَدِيثُهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اَللَّهِ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ إِنَّ مَنْزِلِي نَاءٍ عَنِ اَلْمَدِينَةِ فَمُرْنِي بِلَيْلَةٍ أَدْخُلُ فِيهَا فَأَمَرَهُ بِلَيْلَةِ ثَلاَثٍ وَ عِشْرِينَ«.

Al-Husayn ibn Said, from al-Qasim ibn Urwah, from Abdullah ibn Bukayr, from Zurarah, from one of the two Imams (a.s), peace be upon them, who said: I (narrator) asked Imam (a.s) about ‘the nights in which ghusl is recommended in the month of Ramadan.’ Imam (a.s) said: “The night of the nineteenth, the night of the twenty-first, and the night of the twenty-third.” And Imam (a.s) said: “On the night of the nineteenth, the delegation of the pilgrims is written therein, and ‘therein every wise affair is distinguished.’ (Surah Ad-Dukhan 44:4) And the night of the twenty-first, Jesus (a.s), peace be upon him, was raised therein, and therein the successor of Moses (a.s), peace be upon him, was taken, and therein the Commander of the Faithful (a.s), peace be upon him, was taken (martyred). And the night of the twenty-third, and it is the Night of ‘al-Juhani’” And his hadith is that he said to the Messenger of Allah (swt), may Allah (swt) bless him and his family, ‘Indeed, my dwelling is far from Madinah, so command me with a night in which I should enter.’ So the Prophet (saws) commanded him with the night of the twenty-third.”

وقد قدمنا في كتاب الصلاة في باب عمل شهر رمضان ما يستحب ان يقول الانسان من الدعاء وقراءة القرآن فلا وجه لاعادته هاهنا وفيه كفاية ان شاء الله.

We have already presented, in the ‘Book of Prayer’, in the chapter on the acts of the month of Ramadan, what it is recommended for a person to say of supplication and recitation of the Quran, so there is no reason to repeat it here, and in it there is sufficiency, if Allah (swt) wills.
