رَوَى اَلسَّكُونِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ: "أَوَّلُ شَيْءٍ يُبْدَأُ بِهِ مِنَ اَلْمَالِ اَلْكَفَنُ ثُمَّ اَلدَّيْنُ ثُمَّ اَلْوَصِيَّةُ ثُمَّ اَلْمِيرَاثُ".
Al-Sakuni narrated from Abu Abdullah (a.s), who said: "The first thing to be taken care of from the wealth (of the deceased) is the shroud (for burial), then the debts, then the will, and then the inheritance."
وَ رَوَى عَاصِمُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ اَلْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ: "إِنَّ اَلدَّيْنَ قَبْلَ اَلْوَصِيَّةِ ثُمَّ اَلْوَصِيَّةَ عَلَى أَثَرِ اَلدَّيْنِ ثُمَّ اَلْمِيرَاثَ بَعْدَ اَلْوَصِيَّةِ فَإِنَّ أَوْلَى اَلْقَضَاءِ كِتَابُ اَللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ".
Aṣim ibn Humayd narrated from Muhammad ibn Qays from Abu Jafar Imam Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Baqir (a.s), who said that the Commander of the Faithful (a.s) said: "Indeed, the debt takes precedence over the will, then the will follows after the debt, and then the inheritance comes after the will. Verily, fulfilling what is prescribed in the Book of Allah (swt), the Mighty and Majestic, has the highest priority."
وَ رَوَى اَلْحَسَنُ بْنُ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ: "اَلْكَفَنُ مِنْ جَمِيعِ اَلْمَالِ".
Al-Hasan ibn Mahbub narrated from Abdullah ibn Sinan from Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (a.s), who said: "The shroud (for burial) is to be provided from the entirety of the wealth (of the deceased)."
وَ قَالَ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ: "كَفَنُ اَلْمَرْأَةِ عَلَى زَوْجِهَا إِذَا مَاتَتْ".
And Imam (a.s) said: "The shroud of a woman is the responsibility of her husband if she passes away."
رَوَى اَلْحَسَنُ بْنُ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رِئَابٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مَاتَ وَ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ بِقَدْرِ ثَمَنِ كَفَنِهِ قَالَ "يُجْعَلُ مَا تَرَكَ فِي ثَمَنِ كَفَنِهِ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَتَّجِرَ عَلَيْهِ بَعْضُ اَلنَّاسِ فَيُكَفِّنُونَهُ وَ يُقْضَى مَا عَلَيْهِ مِمَّا تَرَكَ".
Al-Hasan ibn Mahbub narrated from Ali ibn Riʾab from Zurarah, who said: I asked Imam (a.s) about a man who died while owing a debt equal to the price of his shroud. Imam (a.s) said: "What he left behind should be used for the price of his shroud unless some people choose to contribute and provide his shroud. In that case, his debt should be paid off from what he left behind."
