Abu al-Hasan Imam Musa ibn Jafar Al-Kadhim (a.s) was asked about what is extracted from the sea, such as pearls, rubies, and emeralds, and about mines of gold and silver: "Is there Zakat on them?" Imam (a.s) replied: "If their value reaches one dinar, then Khums (one-fifth) is due on them."
