Performing Two Salah (Prayer) Soon After the Other
6 Aḥadīth
Ḥadīth 1

1ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ صَلَّى رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) بِالنَّاسِ الظُّهْرَ وَالْعَصْرَ حِينَ زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ مِنْ غَيْرِ عِلَّةٍ وَصَلَّى بِهِمُ الْمَغْرِبَ وَالْعِشَاءَ الآخِرَةَ قَبْلَ سُقُوطِ الشَّفَقِ مِنْ غَيْرِ عِلَّةٍ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ وَإِنَّمَا فَعَلَ رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) لِيَتَّسِعَ الْوَقْتُ عَلَى أُمَّتِهِ.

1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr from Zurarah from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who said, “The Messenger of Allah (sw) performed the Dhuhr and ‘Asr prayers when the sun declined (toward the west at noontime) in congregation without any reason. He also performed the Maghrib and Isha’ prayers in congregation before disappearing of al-Shafaq (redness) without any reason to do so. The Messenger of Allah (sw) did so to make it easier for his followers.”

Ḥadīth 2

2ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ شَهِدْتُ الْمَغْرِبَ لَيْلَةً مَطِيرَةً فِي مَسْجِدِ رَسُولِ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) فَحِينَ كَانَ قَرِيباً مِنَ الشَّفَقِ نَادَوْا وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلاَةَ فَصَلَّوُا الْمَغْرِبَ ثُمَّ أَمْهَلُوا بِالنَّاسِ حَتَّى صَلَّوْا رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ قَامَ الْمُنَادِي فِي مَكَانِهِ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَأَقَامَ الصَّلاَةَ فَصَلَّوُا الْعِشَاءَ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ النَّاسُ إِلَى مَنَازِلِهِمْ فَسَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ قَدْ كَانَ رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) عَمِلَ بِهَذَا.

2. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “I once was present in Masjid of the Messenger of Allah, during the time of al-Maghrib Salah (prayer) in a rainy evening. When it was near al-Shafaq (redness), they called and performed Salah (prayer) of al-Maghrib. People were given time to perform two Rak‘at Salah (prayer), then the caller stood in his place in Masjid, called for Salah (prayer) and they performed al-Isha’ Salah (prayer). People then left for their homes. I asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about it. He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, the Messenger of Allah had certainly done so.’”

Ḥadīth 3

3ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَيْفٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ إِذَا جَمَعْتَ بَيْنَ الصَّلاَتَيْنِ فَلاَ تَطَوَّعْ بَيْنَهُمَا.

3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Salmah ibn al-Khattab from al-Husayn ibn Sayf from Hammad ibn ‘Uthman from Muhammad ibn Hakim who has said the following: “I once heard abu al-Hassan (a.s.), say, ‘If you perform two Salah (prayer), one after the other, do not perform optional Salah (prayer) between them.”’

Ḥadīth 4

4ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُوسَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) يَقُولُ الْجَمْعُ بَيْنَ الصَّلاَتَيْنِ إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ بَيْنَهُمَا تَطَوُّعٌ فَإِذَا كَانَ بَيْنَهُمَا تَطَوُّعٌ فَلاَ جَمْعَ.

4. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Muhammad ibn Musa from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Faddal from Hammad ibn ‘Uthman who has said the following: “Muhammad ibn Hakim narrated to me that he had heard abu al-Hassan (a.s.), say, ‘Performing two Salah (prayer) soon one after the other is when no optional Salah (prayer) is performed between them. When optional Salah (prayer) is performed between them, they are not performed soon one after the other.’”

Ḥadīth 5

5ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي زَكَرِيَّا عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ الْجَمَّالِ قَالَ صَلَّى بِنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) الظُّهْرَ وَالْعَصْرَ عِنْدَ مَا زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ بِأَذَانٍ وَإِقَامَتَيْنِ وَقَالَ إِنِّي عَلَى حَاجَةٍ فَتَنَفَّلُوا.

5. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Zakariya from Aban from Safwan al-Jammal who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), performed with us al-Dhuhr and al-‘Asr Salah (prayer) after the sun declined (toward the west at noontime), with one Adhan and two ‘Iqamah, and said, ‘I need to do something, so you can perform optional Salah (prayer).”’

Ḥadīth 6

6ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ عَبَّاسٍ النَّاقِدِ قَالَ تَفَرَّقَ مَا كَانَ فِي يَدِي وَتَفَرَّقَ عَنِّي حُرَفَائِي فَشَكَوْتُ ذَلِكَ إِلَى أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) فَقَالَ لِي اجْمَعْ بَيْنَ الصَّلاَتَيْنِ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ تَرَى مَا تُحِبُّ.

6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn Ahmad from ‘Abbas al-Naqid who has said the following: “My belongings and associates were scattered and I complained about it before abu Muhammad (a.s.). He (the Imam) said, ‘Perform al-Dhuhr and al-‘Asr Salah (prayer) soon after the other; you will see whatever you love.’”
