58. Performing Salah (Prayer) Inside Ka’bah, on its Top, al-Biya 4, Churches and Places where Performing Salah (prayer) Is Undesirable

1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ فِي الْبِيَعِ وَالْكَنَائِسِ فَقَالَ رُشَّ وَصَلِّ قَالَ وَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ بُيُوتِ الْمَجُوسِ فَقَالَ رُشَّهَا وَصَلِّ.


1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about performing Salah (prayer) in al-Biya‘ and churches. He (the Imam) said, ‘Sprinkle, then perform Salah (prayer).’ He (the narrator) has said that he then asked him (the Imam) about the houses of Zoroastrians. He (the Imam) said, ‘Sprinkle and perform Salah (prayer).”’

2ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ فِي أَعْطَانِ الإِبِلِ فَقَالَ إِنْ تَخَوَّفْتَ الضَّيْعَةَ عَلَى مَتَاعِكَ فَاكْنُسْهُ وَانْضِحْهُ وَلاَ بَأْسَ بِالصَّلاَةِ فِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ.


2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about performing Salah (prayer) in camel’s barn. He (the Imam) said, ‘If you are afraid for your effects, sweep it and wash it. It is not harmful to perform Salah (prayer) in sheep barns.’”

3ـ عَنْهُ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ قَالَ لاَ تُصَلِّ فِي مَرَابِطِ الْخَيْلِ وَالْبِغَالِ وَالْحَمِيرِ.


3. It is a narration from him (narrator of previous Hadith) by Ahmad ibn Muhammad and Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “He (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said, ‘You must not perform Salah (prayer) in places where horses, mules and donkeys are kept.’”

4ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَمَّنْ سَأَلَ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ الْمَسْجِدِ يَنِزُّ حَائِطُ قِبْلَتِهِ مِنْ بَالُوعَةٍ يُبَالُ فِيهَا فَقَالَ إِنْ كَانَ نَزُّهُ مِنَ الْبَالُوعَةِ فَلاَ تُصَلِّ فِيهِ وَإِنْ كَانَ نَزُّهُ مِنْ غَيْرِ ذَلِكَ فَلاَ بَأْسَ بِهِ.


4. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn abu Nasr from someone who had asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the al-Qiblah (al-Ka‘bah) side of the wall of a Masjid from which sewage, in which people urinate, leaks. He (the Imam) said, ‘If the leakage is from the sewage, do not perform Salah (prayer) there; but if the leakage is from something else, it is not an offense to perform Salah (prayer) there.’”

5ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ فِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ فَقَالَ صَلِّ فِيهَا وَلاَ تُصَلِّ فِي أَعْطَانِ الإِبِلِ إِلاَّ أَنْ تَخَافَ عَلَى مَتَاعِكَ الضَّيْعَةَ فَاكْنُسْهُ وَرُشَّهُ بِالْمَاءِ وَصَلِّ فِيهِ وَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ فِي ظَهْرِ الطَّرِيقِ فَقَالَ لاَ بَأْسَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ فِي الظَّوَاهِرِ الَّتِي بَيْنَ الْجَوَادِّ فَأَمَّا عَلَى الْجَوَادِّ فَلاَ تُصَلِّ فِيهَا قَالَ وَكُرِهَ الصَّلاَةُ فِي السَّبَخَةِ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ مَكَاناً لَيِّناً تَقَعُ عَلَيْهِ الْجَبْهَةُ مُسْتَوِيَةً قَالَ وَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ فِي الْبِيعَةِ فَقَالَ إِذَا اسْتَقْبَلْتَ الْقِبْلَةَ فَلاَ بَأْسَ بِهِ قَالَ وَرَأَيْتُهُ فِي الْمَنَازِلِ الَّتِي فِي طَرِيقِ مَكَّةَ يَرُشُّ أَحْيَاناً مَوْضِعَ جَبْهَتِهِ ثُمَّ يَسْجُدُ عَلَيْهِ رَطْباً كَمَا هُوَ وَرُبَّمَا لَمْ يَرُشَّ الَّذِي يَرَى أَنَّهُ طَيِّبٌ قَالَ وَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَخُوضُ الْمَاءَ فَتُدْرِكُهُ الصَّلاَةُ فَقَالَ إِنْ كَانَ فِي حَرْبٍ فَإِنَّهُ يُجْزِئُهُ الإِيمَاءُ وَإِنْ كَانَ تَاجِراً فَلْيَقُمْ وَلاَ يَدْخُلْهُ حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَ.


5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the barn of sheep. He (the Imam) said, ‘You can perform Salah (prayer) there but do not perform Salah (prayer) in the place where camels are kept, unless you are afraid for loss of your property, in which case, you can sweep and sprinkle water on it, then perform Salah (prayer) there.’ I then asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about performing Salah (prayer) on a roadside. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not an offense to perform Salah (prayer) in such place but not in the middle of a road.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is undesirable to perform Salah (prayer) on salt grounds unless there is a soft area on which the forehead can rest in a level manner.’ He (the narrator) has said that he then asked him (the Imam) about performing Salah (prayer) in al-Bi‘ah (Church). He (the Imam) said, ‘If you can face al-Qiblah (al-Ka‘bah), then it is not an offense to perform Salah (prayer) there.’ He (the narrator) has said that I saw him (the Imam) in rest areas on the road to Makkah sometimes sprinkle water on the place for his forehead during Sajdah (prostration), and perform Sajdah (prostration) when still wet, as he (the Imam) sometimes would not sprinkle water if it was fine (already wet). He (the narrator) has said that he asked him (the Imam) about a man who sails in water and time for Salah (prayer) arrives. He (the Imam) said, ‘If he is in a war only making gestures for Salah (prayer) is sufficient but if he is a merchant, he is not to sail before performing Salah (prayer).’”

6ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ عَنْ أَبِي جَمِيلَةَ عَنْ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ لاَ تُصَلِّ فِي بَيْتٍ فِيهِ مَجُوسِيٌّ وَلاَ بَأْسَ بِأَنْ تُصَلِّيَ وَفِيهِ يَهُودِيٌّ أَوْ نَصْرَانِيٌّ.


6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Abd al-Majid from abu Jamilah from abu ‘Usamah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Do not perform Salah (prayer) in a house in which there is a Zoroastrian, but it is not a offense if there is a Jew or a Christian.’”

7ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأَبِي الْحَسَنِ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) إِنَّا كُنَّا فِي الْبَيْدَاءِ فِي آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ فَتَوَضَّأْتُ وَاسْتَكْتُ وَأَنَا أَهُمُّ بِالصَّلاَةِ ثُمَّ كَأَنَّهُ دَخَلَ قَلْبِي شَيْ‏ءٌ فَهَلْ يُصَلَّى فِي الْبَيْدَاءِ فِي الْمَحْمِلِ فَقَالَ لاَ تُصَلِّ فِي الْبَيْدَاءِ قُلْتُ وَأَيْنَ حَدُّ الْبَيْدَاءِ فَقَالَ كَانَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) إِذَا بَلَغَ ذَاتَ الْجَيْشِ جَدَّ فِي السَّيْرِ ثُمَّ لاَ يُصَلِّي حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ مُعَرَّسَ النَّبِيِّ (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) قُلْتُ وَأَيْنَ ذَاتُ الْجَيْشِ فَقَالَ دُونَ الْحَفِيرَةِ بِثَلاَثَةِ أَمْيَالٍ.


7. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr who has said the following: “I once said to abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘We were in al-Bayda’ (name of a place) toward the end of the night. I took Wudu’, brushed my teeth and I intended to perform Salah (prayer), then it occurred to me. Is it permissible to perform Salah (prayer), in al-Bayda’ in the carriage? He (the Imam) said, ‘Do not perform Salah (prayer) in al-Bayda’.’ I then asked, ‘What are the limits of al- Bayda’?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, would on reaching Dhat al-Jaysh travel faster. He (the Imam) would not perform Salah (prayer) until reaching Mu‘arras of the Holy prophet.’ I then asked, ‘Where is Dhat al-Jaysh?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is three miles before al-Hafirah.’”

8ـ عَنْهُ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ قَالَ قَالَ الرِّضَا (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) كُلُّ طَرِيقٍ يُوطَأُ وَيُتَطَرَّقُ كَانَتْ فِيهِ جَادَّةٌ أَوْ لَمْ تَكُنْ لاَ يَنْبَغِي الصَّلاَةُ فِيهِ قُلْتُ فَأَيْنَ أُصَلِّي قَالَ يَمْنَةً وَيَسْرَةً.


8. It is a narration from him (narrator of previous Hadith) by Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn al-Fadl who has said the following: “Al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Do not perform Salah (prayer) on any road which is used, regardless, it has a main path or not. It is not proper to perform Salah (prayer) on it.’ I then asked, ‘Where then one can perform Salah (prayer)?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘On its right or left sides.’”

9ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى وَغَيْرُهُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ نُوحٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الأخِيرِ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ تَحْضُرُ الصَّلاَةُ وَالرَّجُلُ بِالْبَيْدَاءِ فَقَالَ يَتَنَحَّى عَنِ الْجَوَادِّ يَمْنَةً وَيَسْرَةً وَيُصَلِّي.


9. Muhammad ibn Yahya and others has narrated from Muhammad ibn Ahmad from Ayyub ibn Nuh who has said the following: “I once asked abu al-Hassan, the last, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘It becomes the time for Salah (prayer) and one is in al-Bayda’ (name of a place). What is he to do?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘One moves away from the center toward the right or left, then performs Salah (prayer).”’

10ـ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ عَامِرٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَهْزِيَارَ عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) أَنَّهُ قَالَ الصَّلاَةُ تُكْرَهُ فِي ثَلاَثَةِ مَوَاطِنَ مِنَ الطَّرِيقِ الْبَيْدَاءِ وَهِيَ ذَاتُ الْجَيْشِ وَذَاتِ الصَّلاَصِلِ وَضَجْنَانَ قَالَ وَقَالَ لاَ بَأْسَ أَنْ يُصَلَّى بَيْنَ الظَّوَاهِرِ وَهِيَ الْجَوَادُّ جَوَادُّ الطَّرِيقِ وَيُكْرَهُ أَنْ يُصَلَّى فِي الْجَوَادِّ.


10. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from ‘Abd ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amir from Ali ibn Mahziyar from Fadalah ibn Ayyub from Mu‘awiyah ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘It is undesirable to perform Salah (prayer) in three locations of roads. They are al-Bayda’ which is Dhat al-Jaysh, Dhat al-Salasil, and Dajnan (names of places).’ He (the narrator) has said that he (the Imam) then said, ‘It is not an offense to perform Salah (prayer) above the main road but it is undesirable to perform Salah (prayer) on the main road.’”

11ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ لاَ يُصَلَّى فِي وَادِي الشُّقْرَةِ.


11. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from certain persons of our people who have said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Salah (prayer) is not performed in al-Shuqrah valley.’”

12ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الله عَنِ ابْنِ الْبَرْقِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ الْفَضْلِ عَمَّنْ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ عَشَرَةُ مَوَاضِعَ لاَ يُصَلَّى فِيهَا الطِّينُ وَالْمَاءُ وَالْحَمَّامُ وَالْقُبُورُ وَمَسَانُّ الطَّرِيقِ وَقُرَى النَّمْلِ وَمَعَاطِنُ الإِبِلِ وَمَجْرَى الْمَاءِ وَالسَّبَخُ وَالثَّلْجُ.


12. Ali ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah has narrated from ibn al-Barqiy from his father from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Fadl from those who narrated to him has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Salah (prayer) is not performed in ten places, such as in clay, water, bath houses, on graves, on main roads, ant’s colonies, camel’s barns, water beds, salt grounds and on snow.’”

13ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مُصَدِّقِ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ عَنْ عَمَّارٍ السَّابَاطِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ حَدِّ الطِّينِ الَّذِي لاَ يُسْجَدُ فِيهِ مَا هُوَ قَالَ إِذَا غَرِقَ الْجَبْهَةُ وَلَمْ تَثْبُتْ عَلَى الأرْضِ وَعَنِ الرَّجُلِ يُصَلِّي بَيْنَ الْقُبُورِ قَالَ لاَ يَجُوزُ ذَلِكَ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَجْعَلَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْقُبُورِ إِذَا صَلَّى عَشَرَةَ أَذْرُعٍ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَعَشَرَةَ أَذْرُعٍ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ وَعَشَرَةَ أَذْرُعٍ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَشَرَةَ أَذْرُعٍ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي إِنْ شَاءَ.


13. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ahmad ibn al-Hassan ibn Ali from ‘Amr ibn Sa‘id from Musaddiq ibn Sadaqah from ‘Ammar al-Sabatiy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about what is clay on which Sajdah (prostration) cannot be performed. He (the Imam) said, ‘Clay is that on which one’s forehead sinks lower and lower without remaining in one place on earth.’ I asked about a man who performs Salah (prayer) on graves. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not permissible unless he places something between himself and the graves when performing Salah (prayer), like a distance of ten yards from his front side and from his back side, ten yards from the right and ten yards from the left; then he can perform Salah (prayer) if he wanted.’”

14ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ دَاوُدَ الصَّرْمِيِّ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قُلْتُ إِنِّي أَخْرُجُ فِي هَذَا الْوَجْهِ وَرُبَّمَا لَمْ يَكُنْ مَوْضِعٌ أُصَلِّي فِيهِ مِنَ الثَّلْجِ فَقَالَ إِنْ أَمْكَنَكَ أَنْ لاَ تَسْجُدَ عَلَى الثَّلْجِ فَلاَ تَسْجُدْ وَإِنْ لَمْ يُمْكِنْكَ فَسَوِّهِ وَاسْجُدْ عَلَيْهِ. وَفِي حَدِيثٍ آخَرَ اسْجُدْ عَلَى ثَوْبِكَ.


14. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Dawud al-Sarmiy who has said the following: “I once said to abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘I may go in this direction and may not find a place to perform Salah (prayer) because of snow. He (the Imam) said, ‘If possible, do not perform Sajdah (prostration) on snow and if not, then level it and perform Sajdah (prostration) on it.’” In another Hadith it is said, ‘Perform Sajdah (prostration) on your clothes.’”

15ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ مُوسَى وَمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مُصَدِّقِ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ عَنْ عَمَّارٍ السَّابَاطِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ فِي الرَّجُلِ يُصَلِّي وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مُصْحَفٌ مَفْتُوحٌ فِي قِبْلَتِهِ قَالَ لاَ قُلْتُ فَإِنْ كَانَ فِي غِلاَفٍ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَقَالَ لاَ يُصَلِّي الرَّجُلُ وَفِي قِبْلَتِهِ نَارٌ أَوْ حَدِيدٌ وَعَنِ الرَّجُلِ يُصَلِّي وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ قِنْدِيلٌ مُعَلَّقٌ وَفِيهِ نَارٌ إِلاَّ أَنَّهُ بِحِيَالِهِ قَالَ إِذَا ارْتَفَعَ كَانَ شَرّاً لاَ يُصَلِّي بِحِيَالِهِ.


15. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from ‘Imran ibn Musa and Muhammad ibn Ahmad from Ahmad ibn al-Hassan ibn Ali from ‘Amr ibn Sa‘id from Musaddiq ibn Sadaqah from ‘Ammar al-Sabatiy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about a man who performs Salah (prayer) and in front of him there is an open copy of Quran. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, it is not permissible.’ I then asked, ‘What happens if it is in a cover?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, it is permissible.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘One is not to perform Salah (prayer) with a fire in front of him, or iron.’ He (the Imam) was asked about a man who performs Salah (prayer) with a chandelier hanging in his front with fire in it except that it is his view. He (the Imam) said, ‘When it is higher it is evil. One is not to perform Salah (prayer) with it in one’s view.’”

16ـ مُحَمَّدٌ عَنِ الْعَمْرَكِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يُصَلِّي وَالسِّرَاجُ مَوْضُوعٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فِي الْقِبْلَةِ فَقَالَ لاَ يَصْلُحُ لَهُ أَنْ يَسْتَقْبِلَ النَّارَ وَرُوِيَ أَيْضاً أَنَّهُ لاَ بَأْسَ بِهِ لأَنَّ الَّذِي يُصَلِّي لَهُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ ذَلِكَ.


16. Muhammad has narrated from al-‘Amrakiy from Ali ibn Ja‘far who has said the following: “I once asked abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about a man who performs Salah (prayer) with a lamp placed in his front in the direction of al-Qiblah (al-Ka‘bah). He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not proper for him to face fire.’ It is also narrated that it is not an offense because the One for whom Salah (prayer) is performed is closer to one (person performing Salah (prayer)).”’

17ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رِئَابٍ عَنْ جَمِيلِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنِ الْفُضَيْلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) أَقُومُ فِي الصَّلاَةِ فَأَرَى قُدَّامِي فِي الْقِبْلَةِ الْعَذِرَةَ فَقَالَ تَنَحَّ عَنْهَا مَا اسْتَطَعْتَ وَلاَ تُصَلِّ عَلَى الْجَوَادِّ.


17. Muhammad ibn al-Hassan and Ali ibn Muhammad have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from ibn Mahbub, from Ali ibn Ri’ab from Jamil ibn Salih, from Fudayl ibn Yasar who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘I stand up for Salah (prayer) and see feces in the direction of al-Qiblah (al-Ka‘bah). He (the Imam) said, ‘Keep away from it as much as you can and do not perform Salah (prayer) on a main road.’”

18ـ جَمَاعَةٌ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ عَنِ الْعَلاَءِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا (عَلَيْهِما الْسَّلام) قَالَ لاَ تُصَلَّى الْمَكْتُوبَةُ فِي الْكَعْبَةِ. وَرُوِيَ فِي حَدِيثٍ آخَرَ يُصَلَّى فِي أَرْبَعِ جَوَانِبِهَا إِذَا اضْطُرَّ إِلَى ذَلِكَ.


18. A group has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Fadalah ibn Ayyub from al-‘Ala’ from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “One of the two Imam, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said, ‘Do not perform obligatory Salah (prayer) in al- Ka‘bah.’” In another Hadith it is narrated that Salah (prayer) is performed toward four directions if one has no choice but to do so.”

19ـ جَمَاعَةٌ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ فَضَالَةَ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنْ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْمَاعِيلَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) الرَّجُلُ يُصَلِّي عَلَى أَبِي قُبَيْسٍ مُسْتَقْبِلَ الْقِبْلَةِ فَقَالَ لاَ بَأْسَ.


19. A group has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Fadalah from al-Husayn ibn ‘Uthman from ibn Muskan from Khalid abu ’Isma‘il who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘Can one perform Salah (prayer) on abu Qubays (name of the hill) facing the direction of al-Qiblah (al-Ka‘bah)? He (the Imam) said, ‘There is no offense in it.”’

20ـ جَمَاعَةٌ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنِ الْعَلاَءِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَحَدَهُمَا (عَلَيْهِما الْسَّلام) عَنِ التَّمَاثِيلِ فِي الْبَيْتِ فَقَالَ لاَ بَأْسَ إِذَا كَانَتْ عَنْ يَمِينِكَ وَعَنْ شِمَالِكَ وَعَنْ خَلْفِكَ أَوْ تَحْتِ رِجْلَيْكَ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ فِي الْقِبْلَةِ فَأَلْقِ عَلَيْهَا ثَوْباً.


20. A group has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Safwan ibn Yahya from al-‘Ala’ from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once asked one of the two Imam, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, about pictures in the house. He (the Imam) said, ‘There is no offense in it if it is on your right, left, behind you or under your feet. If it is in the direction of al-Qiblah (al-Ka‘bah), then cover it with a piece of cloth.’”

21ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ السَّلاَمِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنِ الرِّضَا (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) فِي الَّذِي تُدْرِكُهُ الصَّلاَةُ وَهُوَ فَوْقَ الْكَعْبَةِ قَالَ إِنْ قَامَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ قِبْلَةٌ وَلَكِنَّهُ يَسْتَلْقِي عَلَى قَفَاهُ وَيَفْتَحُ عَيْنَيْهِ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ وَيَعْقِدُ بِقَلْبِهِ الْقِبْلَةَ الَّتِي فِي السَّمَاءِ الْبَيْتَ الْمَعْمُورَ وَيَقْرَأُ فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْكَعَ غَمَّضَ عَيْنَيْهِ فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ فَتَحَ عَيْنَيْهِ وَالسُّجُودُ عَلَى نَحْوِ ذَلِكَ.


21. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Ishaq ibn Muhammad from ‘Abd al-Salam ibn Salih who has said the following: “I once asked al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of one who at the time of Salah (prayer) is on the top of al-Ka‘bah. He (the Imam) said, ‘If he stands up there is no al-Qiblah (al-Ka‘bah) for him; however, he lies down on his back and opens his eyes to the sky and keeps in his heart al-Qiblah which is in the heaven, al-Bayt al-Ma‘mur, does the recitation and for Ruku‘ (bowing down on one’s knees) closes his eyes. When intending to raise his head from Ruku‘ opens his eyes and for Sujud (prostrations) he does the same.’”

22ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) فِي التِّمْثَالِ يَكُونُ فِي الْبِسَاطِ فَتَقَعُ عَيْنُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَأَنْتَ تُصَلِّي قَالَ إِنْ كَانَ بِعَيْنٍ وَاحِدَةٍ فَلاَ بَأْسَ وَإِنْ كَانَ لَهُ عَيْنَانِ فَلاَ.


22. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from certain persons of his people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about pictures on furnishings which come in one’s view has said, ‘If there is one eye for it, it is not harmful but if it has two eyes then it is not permissible.’”

23ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ وَحَدِيدٍ قَالاَ قُلْنَا لأَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) السَّطْحُ يُصِيبُهُ الْبَوْلُ أَوْ يُبَالُ عَلَيْهِ أَ يُصَلَّى فِي ذَلِكَ الْمَكَانِ فَقَالَ إِنْ كَانَ تُصِيبُهُ الشَّمْسُ وَالرِّيحُ وَكَانَ جَافّاً فَلاَ بَأْسَ بِهِ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ يُتَّخَذُ مَبَالاً.


23. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from Hammad from Hariz from Zurarah and Ali ibn Hadid who have said the following: “We once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about a roof on which there is urine. Can one perform Salah (prayer) there? He (the Imam) said, ‘If sun rays and wind can reach it and it is dry, there is no offense in it unless it is used as a urinating place.’”

24ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مُصَدِّقِ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ عَنْ عَمَّارٍ السَّابَاطِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ لاَ يُصَلَّى فِي بَيْتٍ فِيهِ خَمْرٌ أَوْ مُسْكِرٌ.


24. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ahmad ibn al-Hassan ibn Ali from ‘Amr ibn Sa‘id from Musaddiq ibn Sadaqah from ‘Ammar al-Sabatiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Salah (prayer) is not performed in a house where wine and intoxicating items exist.’”

25ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ نُعَيْمٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنْ هَذِهِ الْمَنَازِلِ الَّتِي يَنْزِلُهَا النَّاسُ فِيهَا أَبْوَالُ الدَّوَابِّ وَ السِّرْجِينُ وَيَدْخُلُهَا الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى كَيْفَ يُصَلَّى فِيهَا قَالَ صَلِّ عَلَى ثَوْبِكَ.


25. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus from Hammad from ‘Amir ibn Nu’aym who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of these houses where people lodge, in which there is urine of animals and dung, where Jews and Christians enter. How is one to perform Salah (prayer)? He (the Imam) said, ‘Perform Salah (prayer) on your clothes.’”

26ـ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ جَبْرَئِيلُ (عَلَيْهِم الْسَّلام) يَا رَسُولَ الله إِنَّا لاَ نَدْخُلُ بَيْتاً فِيهِ صُورَةُ إِنْسَانٍ وَلاَ بَيْتاً يُبَالُ فِيهِ وَلاَ بَيْتاً فِيهِ كَلْبٌ.


26. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from af-Hassan ibn Afi af-Washsha’ from Aban from ‘Amr ibn Khafid who has said the foiiowing: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Jibril said, “O Messenger of Allah, we do not enter a house in which there are pictures of a human being, or a house used for urinating or a house where a dog exists.’””

27ـ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الأشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَرْوَانَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) إِنَّ جَبْرَئِيلَ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) أَتَانِي فَقَالَ إِنَّا مَعْشَرَ الْمَلاَئِكَةِ لاَ نَدْخُلُ بَيْتاً فِيهِ كَلْبٌ وَلاَ تِمْثَالُ جَسَدٍ وَلاَ إِنَاءٌ يُبَالُ فِيهِ.


27. Abu Afi ai-Ash’ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd af-Jabbar from Safwan from ibn Muskan from Muhammad Marwan who has said the foiiowing: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Jibril came to me and said, “We the community of angels do not enter a house in which a dog exists, or there is a statue of a body or there is a pot with urine in it.””
