Al-Amālī

1 - حدثنا الشيخ الفقيه أبو جعفر محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن موسى ابن بابويه القمي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن أبي عبد الله الكوفي، قال: حدثنا محمد بن إسماعيل، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن وهب البصري، قال: حدثني ثوابة بن مسعود، عن أنس بن مالك، قال: توفي ابن لعثمان بن مظعون (رضي الله عنه)، فاشتد حزنه عليه حتى اتخذ من داره مسجدا يتعبد فيه، فبلغ ذلك رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله)، فقال له: يا عثمان، إن الله تبارك وتعالى لم يكتب علينا الرهبانية، إنما رهبانية امتي الجهاد في سبيل الله. يا عثمان بن مظعون، للجنة ثمانية أبواب، وللنار سبعة أبواب، أفما يسرك أن لا تأتي باب منها إلا وجدت ابنك إلى جنبك آخذا بحجزتك (1)، يشفع لك إلى ربك؟ قال: بلى. فقال المسلمون: ولنا - يا رسول الله - في فرطنا (2) ما لعثمان؟ قال: نعم، لمن صبر منكم واحتسب. ثم قال: يا عثمان، من صلى صلاة الفجر في جماعة ثم جلس يذكر الله عزوجل حتى تطلع الشمس، كان له في الفردوس سبعون درجة، بعد ما بين كل درجتين كحضر (1) الفرس الجواد المضمر (2) سبعين سنة، ومن صلى الظهر في جماعة كان له في جنات عدن خمسون درجة بعد ما بين كل درجتين كحضر الفرس الجواد خمسين سنة، ومن صلى العصر في جماعة كان له كأجر ثمانية من ولد إسماعيل كل منهم رب بيت يعتقهم، ومن صلى المغرب في جماعة كان له كحجة مبرورة وعمرة مقبولة، ومن صلى العشاء في جماعة كان له كقيام ليلة القدر (3).

Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil (rh) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Abi `Abdilah al-Kufi narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Isma`il narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Wahab al-Basri narrated to us. He said: Thawaba b. Mas`ud narrated to me from Anas b. Malik. He said: A son of `Uthman b. Math`un (ra) passed away, and his grief intensified to the point where he took to a place of prayer in his house and kept vigil therein. The Messenger of Allah (s) was told about that, so he said to him: O `Uthman! Allah has not proscribed monasticism for us. Surely, the monasticism of my Nation is striving in the way of Allah. O `Uthman b. Math`un! Paradise has eight gates, and the Fire has seven gates. Does it not gladden you that you will not go to any of these gates except that you will find your son taking you by the trousers and interceding for you to your Lord? He said: Of course. So, the Muslims said: Us too, O Messenger of Allah – will those who passed on [intercede for us] in the same way as `Uthman [and his son]? He said: Yes, for those of you who are patient and anticipant. Then, he said: O `Uthman! Whoever prays Fajr in congregation, then sits and remembers Allah until sunrise, will have seventy ranks in the Highest Paradise – between each rank is seventy years of the travel distance of a destrier. Whoever prays Thuhr in congregation will have fifty ranks in the Garden of Eden – between each rank is fifty years of the travel distance of a destrier. Whoever prays `Asr in congregation will have the reward of one who frees eighty descendants of Isma`il. Whoever prays Maghrib in congregation, it is as though he performs a virtuous Hajj and an accepted `Umra. Whoever prays `Isha’ in congregation, it is as though he kept vigil on the Night of Power.

2 - حدثنا محمد بن إبراهيم بن إسحاق (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن محمد الهمداني، قال: حدثنا محمد بن أحمد بن صالح بن سعد التميمي، عن أبيه، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن هشام، قال: حدثنا منصور بن مجاهد، عن الربيع بن بدر، عن سوار بن منيب، عن وهب، عن ابن عباس، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): إن لله تبارك وتعالى ملكا يسمى سخائيل يأخذ البروات (4) للمصلين عند كل صلاة من رب العالمين جل جلاله، فإذا أصبح المؤمنون وقاموا وتوضؤوا وصلوا صلاة الفجر، أخذ من الله عز وجل براءة لهم، مكتوب فيها: أنا الله الباقي، عبادي وإمائي في حرزي جعلتكم، وفي حفظي، وتحت كنفي صيرتكم، وعزتي لا خذلتكم، وأنتم مغفور لكم ذنوبكم إلى الظهر. فإذا كان وقت الظهر فقاموا وتوضؤوا وصلوا، أخذ لهم من الله عزوجل البراءة الثانية، مكتوب فيها: أنا الله القادر، عبادي وإمائي بدلت سيئاتكم حسنات، وغفرت لكم السيئات، وأحللتكم برضاي عنكم دار الجلال. فإذا كان وقت العصر فقاموا وتوضؤوا وصلوا أخذ لهم من الله عزوجل البراءة الثالثة، مكتوب فيها أنا الله الجليل، جل ذكري وعظم سلطاني، عبيدي وإمائي حرمت أبدانكم على النار، وأسكنتكم مساكن الابرار، ودفعت عنكم برحمتي شر الاشرار. فإذا كان وقت المغرب فقاموا وتوضؤوا وصلوا، أخذ لهم من الله عزوجل البراءة الرابعة، مكتوب فيها: أنا الله الجبار الكبير المتعال، عبيدي وإمائي صعد ملائكتي من عندكم با لرضا، وحق علي أن أرضيكم وأعطيكم يوم القيامة منيتكم. فإذا كان وقت العشاء فقاموا وتوضؤوا وصلوا، أخذ لهم من الله عزوجل البراءة الخامسة، مكتوب فيها: إني أنا الله لا إله غيري، ولا رب سواي، عبادي وإمائي في بيوتكم تطهرتم، وإلى بيوتي مشيتم، وفي ذكري خضتم، وحقي عرفتم، وفرائضي أديتم، أشهدك يا سخائيل وسائر ملائكتي أني قد رضيت عنهم. قال: فينادي سخائيل بثلاث أصوات كل ليلة بعد صلاة العشاة: يا ملائكة الله، إن الله تبارك وتعالى قد غفر للمصلين الموحدين. فلا يبقى ملك في السماوات السبع إلا استغفر للمصلين، ودعا لهم بالمداومة على ذلك، فمن رزق صلاة الليل من عبد أو أمة، قام لله عزوجل مخلصا، فتوضأ وضوءا سابغا، وصلى لله عزوجل بنية صادقة وقلب سليم وبدن خاشع وعين دامعة، جعل الله تبارك وتعالى خلفه تسعة صفوف من الملائكة، في كل صف ما لا يحصي عددهم إلا الله تبارك وتعالى، أحد طرفي كل صف بالمشرق والآخر بالمغرب. قال: فإذا فرغ كتب له بعددهم درجات. قال منصور: كان الربيع بن بدر إذا حدث بهذا الحديث يقول: أين أنت - يا غافل - عن هذا الكرم؟ وأين أنت عن قيام هذا الليل؟ وعن جزيل هذا الثواب، وعن هذه الكرامة (1)؟

Muhammad b. Ibrahim b. Ishaq (rh) narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Hamadani narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Salih b. Sa`d al-Tamimi narrated to us from his father. He said: Ahmad b. Hisham narrated to us. He said: Mansur b. Mujahid narrated to us from al-Rabi` b. Badr from Sawar b. Munib from Wahb from Ibn `Abbas. He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: For Allah there is an angel named Sakha'il who brings a script from the Lord of the Worlds at every time of prayer to those who pray. When the believers awake, perform ablution, and pray Fajr, he gives them a script from Allah. It is written therein: "I am Allah the Everlasting. My male and female servants: you are in My hedge that I have made for you, and in My protection. You are under My care. By My glory, I will not let you down. Your sins up until Thuhr are forgiven." When Thuhr time comes, and they stand up, perform ablution, and pray, he brings a second script from Allah to them. It is written therein: "I am Allah the Powerful. My male and female servants: your sins have been changed into good deeds and your offenses have been forgiven. I have sweetened you with My being pleased with you in the abode of majesty." When `Asr time comes, and they stand up, perform ablution, and pray, he brings a third script from Allah to them. It is written therein: "I am Allah the Majestic. My remembrance is majestic, and My power is great. My male and female servants: I have forbidden your bodies from the Fire, I have settled you into goodly residences, and I have repelled the evil of the evildoers from you by My mercy." When Maghrib time comes, and they stand up, perform ablution, and pray, he brings a fourth script from Allah to them. It is written therein: "I am Allah the Mighty, the Grand, the Highly. My male and female servants: My angels are pleased after having ascended from you. It is a right upon Me to please you and to give you what you wish on the Day of Resurrection." When `Isha' time comes, and they stand up, perform ablution, and pray, he brings a fifth script from Allah to them. It is written therein: "Surely, I, I am Allah, there is no god besides Me, nor is there a lord like Me. My male and female servants: You have purified yourselves in your homes, you have walked to My homes, you have shivered in My remembrance, you have recognized My right, and you have fulfilled My obligations. Bear witness, O Sakha'il and the rest of My angels, that I am pleased with them." He said: So, Sakha'il calls three times every night after `Isha': "O angels of Allah! Allah has forgiven the monotheists who pray." So, there does not remain an angel in the seven heavens except that it seeks repentance on behalf of those who pray and prays that they maintain that effort. Whichever male or female servant is granted [an opportunity to pray] a night prayer, standing purified before Allah, washing thoroughly in ablution, praying for Allah with an honest intention, a peaceable heart, a body in awe, and a tearful eye, Allah will put nine rows of angels behind him - the number in each row is not known to anyone except Allah - one end of the row will be in the East, and the other in the West. He said: Once he finishes, he will be given ranks by their number. Mansur said: Whenever Rabi` b. Badr would narrate this hadith, he would say: "Where are you, O heedless one, in relation to this honour? Where are you in relation to standing in prayer tonight; and in relation to obtaining these rewards and this honour?"

3 - حدثنا الحسين بن إبراهيم (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن أبي الصلت الهروي، قال: إن المأمون قال للرضا (عليه السلام): يابن رسول الله، قد عرفت فضلك وعلمك وزهدك وورعك وعبادتك، وأراك أحق بالخلافة مني. فقال الرضا (عليه السلام): بالعبودية لله عزوجل افتخر، وبالزهد في الدنيا أرجو النجاة من شر الدنيا، وبالورع عن المحارم أرجو الفوز بالمغانم، وبالتواضع في الدنيا أرجو الرفعة عند الله عزوجل. فقال له المأمون: إني قد رأيت أن أعزل نفسي عن الخلافة وأجعلها لك وأبايعك. فقال له الرضا (عليه السلام): إن كانت الخلافة لك وجعلها الله لك، فلا يجوز أن تخلع لباسا ألبسك الله وتجعله لغيرك، وإن كانت الخلافة ليست لك، فلا يجوز لك أن تجعل لي ما ليس لك. فقال له المأمون: يا بن رسول الله، لا بد لك من قبول هذا الامر، فقال: لست أفعل ذلك طائعا أبدا، فما زال يجهد به أياما حتى يئس من قبوله. فقال له: فإن لم تقبل الخلافة ولم تحب مبايعتي لك، فكن ولي عهدي لتكون لك الخلافة بعدي. فقال الرضا (عليه السلام): والله لقد حدثني أبي، عن آبائه، عن أمير المؤمنين، عن رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): إني أخرج من الدنيا قبلك مقتولا بالسم مظلوما، تبكي علي ملائكة السماء وملائكة الارض، وأدفن في أرض غربة إلى جنب هارون الرشيد. فبكى المأمون، ثم قال له: يا بن رسول الله، ومن الذي يقتلك، أو يقدر على الاساءة إليك وأنا حي؟ فقال الرضا (عليه السلام): أما إني لو أشاء أن أقول من الذي يقتلني لقلت. فقال المأمون: يا بن رسول الله، إنما تريد بقولك هذا التخفيف عن نفسك، ودفع هذا الامر عنك، ليقول الناس: إنك زاهد في الدنيا. فقال الرضا (عليه السلام): والله ما كذبت منذ خلقني ربي عزوجل، وما زهدت في الدنيا للدنيا، وإني لاعلم ما تريد. فقال المأمون: وما أريد؟ قال: لي الامان على الصدق؟ قال: لك الامان. قال: تريد بذلك أن يقول الناس: إن علي بن موسى لم يزهد في الدنيا، بل زهدت الدنيا فيه، ألا ترون كيف قبل ولاية العهد طمعا في الخلافة. فغضب المأمون، ثم قال: إنك تتلقاني أبدا بما أكرهه، وقد أمنت سطواتي، فبالله أقسم لان قبلت ولاية العهد وإلا أجبرتك على ذلك، فإن فعلت وإلا ضربت عنقك. فقال الرضا (عليه السلام): قد نهاني الله عزوجل أن ألقي بيدي إلى التهلكة، فإن كان الامر على هذا فافعل ما بدا لك، وأنا أقبل ذلك، على أني لا اولي أحدا، ولا أعزل أحدا، ولا أنقض رسما ولا سنة، وأكون في الامر من بعيد مشيرا. فرضي منه بذلك، وجعله ولي عهده على كراهة منه (عليه السلام) لذلك (1). وصلى الله على رسوله محمد وآله الطيبين الطاهرين وسلم كثيرا

Al-Husayn b. Ibrahim (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father Ibrahim b. Hashim from Abi’l Salt al-Harawi. He said: Al-Ma’mun said to al-Rida (as): O son of the Messenger of Allah! I have recognized your virtue, your knowledge, your asceticism, your piety, and your worship, and I see that you are more rightful to the caliphate than myself. So, al-Rida (as) said: Through my servitude to Allah, I become proud; and through my asceticism of this world, I hope to be delivered from the evil of this world; and through my piety in [abstinence of] the forbidden, I hope to win the spoils; and through my humility in this world, I hope to be elevated in the sight of Allah. So, al-Ma’mun said to him: Surely, I see that I should abdicate myself from the caliphate, give it to you, and pledge allegiance to you. So, al-Rida (as) said to him: If the caliphate were yours, and Allah made it for you, then you would not be able to remove that which Allah has dressed you with and give it to someone else. If the caliphate were not yours, you would not be able to give me that which does not belong to you. So, al-Ma’mun said to him: O son of the Messenger of Allah! You must accept this affair. So, he said: I will never do that willingly. He did not stop demanding this daily until he gave up on having him accept it. So, he said to him: If you will not accept the caliphate, and you would not like me to pledge allegiance to you, then be my crown prince, so that you may have the caliphate after me. So, al-Rida (as) said: By Allah, my father narrated to me from his forefathers from Amir al-Mu’minin from the Messenger of Allah (s) that I will leave this world before you, having been killed with poison and oppressed. The angels of the heavens and the angels of the Earth will weep for me, and I will be buried in an isolated land beside Harun al-Rashid. So, al-Ma’mun wept, then he said to him: O son of the Messenger of Allah! Who will kill you or want to harm you whilst I am alive? So, al-Rida (as) said: If I wanted to tell you who will kill me, I would have said it. So, al-Ma’mun said: O son of the Messenger of Allah! You only want to lighten matters for yourself with these words and repel this affair from yourself, so that the people may say: “You are ascetic in this world.” So, al-Rida (as) said: By Allah, I have never lied since my Lord created me, nor have I ever been ascetic of this world for this world. Surely, I know what you want. So, al-Ma’mun said: What do I want? He said: Will you grant immunity for an honest answer? He said: You are immune. He said: With this, you want the people to say: “Surely, `Ali b. Musa did not abstain from this world, but rather this world abstained from him – do you not see how he accepted the position of crown prince out of desire for the caliphate?” So, al-Ma’mun became angry, then said: Surely, you always treat me in a way that I hate, as though you are immune from me. I swear by Allah, you must accept the position of crown prince, or I will force you to do so. If you do not do so, I will strike your neck. So, al-Rida (as) said: Allah has prohibited me from tossing my hand into peril, so if this is the condition, then do as you wish, and I will accept, so long that I do not appoint anyone or dismiss anyone, nor change any practices or traditions; and that I am just a distant advisor. So, he accepted that, and he made him his crown prince despite his (as) dislike of that.
