High Regards for the Elderly
3 Aḥadīth
Ḥadīth 1

1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) مِنْ إِجْلالِ الله إِجْلالُ ذِي الشَّيْبَةِ الْمُسْلِمِ.

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from certain individuals of his people from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Of high regard toward Allah, is having high regard for a Muslim who has grown a beard.’”

Ḥadīth 2

2ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يُوَقِّرْ كَبِيرَنَا وَيَرْحَمْ صَغِيرَنَا.

2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad in a marfu’ manner from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Whoever does not consider our elders as dignified and does not show kindness to our people who are yet to grow up, is not from our people.”

Ḥadīth 3

3ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ أَبَانٍ عَنِ الْوَصَّافِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) عَظِّمُوا كِبَارَكُمْ وَصِلُوا أَرْحَامَكُمْ وَلَيْسَ تَصِلُونَهُمْ بِشَيْ‏ءٍ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ كَفِّ الأذَى عَنْهُمْ.

3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from ‘Abd Allah ibn Aban from al-Wassafi who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Consider your grown up people as great and maintain good relations with relatives. No other way is better to maintain good relations with relatives than keeping all troubles away from them.’”
