[1] Amīr al-mu’minīn uttered this sentence when Sa‘d ibn Abī Waqqās, Muḥammad ibn Maslamah and ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar refused to support him against the people of Jamal. He means to say that these people are so against me that neither have my words any effect on them nor do I need to reprove, rebuke or correct them.
