وَلَقَدْ
آتَيْنَا
لُقْمَانَ
الْحِكْمَةَ
أَنِ
اشْكُرْ
لِلَّهِ
وَمَن
يَشْكُرْ
فَإِنَّمَا
يَشْكُرُ
لِنَفْسِهِ
وَمَن
كَفَرَ
فَإِنَّ
اللَّهَ
غَنِيٌّ
حَمِيدٌ
wa-la-qad ʾātaynā luqmāna l-ḥikmata ʾani shkur li-llāhi wa-man yashkur fa-ʾinnamā yashkuru li-nafsihī wa-man kafara fa-ʾinna llāha ghaniyyun ḥamīdun
we bestowed (in the past) Wisdom on Luqman: "Show (thy) gratitude to Allah." Any who is (so) grateful does so to the profit of his own soul: but if any is ungrateful, verily Allah is free of all wants, Worthy of all praise.

Certainly We gave Luqman wisdom, saying, ‘Give thanks to Allah; and whoever gives thanks, gives thanks only for his own sake. And whoever is ungrateful, [let him know that] Allah is indeed all-sufficient, all-laudable.’
