أَوَلَمَّا
أَصَابَتْكُم
مُّصِيبَةٌ
قَدْ
أَصَبْتُم
مِّثْلَيْهَا
قُلْتُمْ
أَنَّى
هَذَا
قُلْ
هُوَ
مِنْ
عِندِ
أَنفُسِكُمْ
إِنَّ
اللَّهَ
عَلَى
كُلِّ
شَيْءٍ
قَدِيرٌ
ʾa-wa-lammā ʾaṣābatkum muṣībatun qad ʾaṣabtum mithlayhā qultum ʾannā hādhā qul huwa min ʿindi ʾanfusikum ʾinna llāha ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīrun
What! When a single disaster smites you, although ye smote (your enemies) with one twice as great, do ye say?- "Whence is this?" Say (to them): "It is from yourselves: For Allah hath power over all things."

What, when an affliction visits you—while you have inflicted twice as much—do you say, ‘How is this?’! Say, ‘This is from your own souls.’ Indeed Allah has power over all things.
