Ibrahim from his father from Safwan from Sa’id al-A’raj who said: I asked Aba Abdillah عليه السلام about a man who memorizes the Qur’an, then he forgets it, then he memorizes it (again), then he forgets it, is there on him any sin because of this? He (i.e. the Imam) said: No

I say: The reconciliation of this report with others that came before that cite grave consequence for forgetting the Qur’an is probably because what is meant with ‘forgetting’ in the latter is abandoning acting upon its contents, or even if taken literally then forgetting due to neglect, on the other hand, there is in this report an indication that the man in question is striving to memorize the Qur’an but fails repeatedly because of an involuntary loss of memory due to some natural factors.
