Al-Husayn ibn Sa’id, from Ibn Abi Umayr, from Hammad, from Ibn Abi Shu’bah, said: I (narrator) said to Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him: “A man fasted while travelling.” Imam عليه السلام said: “If it had reached him that the Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, may Allah سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family, forbade that, then upon him is making it up; And if it had not reached him, then there is nothing upon him.”
