Al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Mu‘awiyah ibn Shurayh from Mu‘awiyah ibn Wahb from ‘Amr ibn Nahik from Sallam al-Makki:
Abu Ja‘far عليه السلام, peace be upon him, said: “A man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, whose name was Shaybah al-Hudhali, and he said: “O Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, I am an old man; my age has advanced, and my strength has weakened from the acts I had trained myself upon, prayer, fasting, Hajj, and jihad. So teach me, O Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, some words by which Allah سبحانه وتعالى will benefit me and lighten (the burden) upon me, O Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى.” He صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم replied: “Repeat (what you said).” So he repeated it three times. Then the Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, said to him: “There is not a tree or a clod of earth around you except that it has wept out of mercy for you. So when you have prayed the morning prayer, say ten times: ‘Subhana Allah al-azim wa bihamdih, la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah al-Aliyy al-‘Azim’ (Glory be to Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the Almighty, and with His سبحانه وتعالى praise. There is no power and no strength except with Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the Most High, the Most Great.) Indeed, with this Allah سبحانه وتعالى will protect you from blindness, insanity, leprosy, poverty, and decrepitude.” The man said: “O Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, that is for this world, so what about the Hereafter?” He صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم said: “Say after every prayer: ‘O Allah سبحانه وتعالى, guide me from Yourself سبحانه وتعالى, pour upon me from Your عز وجل bounty, spread upon me from Your عز وجل mercy, and send down upon me from Your عز وجل blessings.’” He (the narrator) said: So He صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم grasped them in his hand and walked on. A man said to Ibn ‘Abbas: "How tightly your uncle clung to them!" He said: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: “Indeed, if he meets (his Lord عز وجل) on the Day of Resurrection having preserved them and not having deliberately abandoned them, Allah سبحانه وتعالى will open for him eight gates from the gates of Paradise, and he will enter through whichever of them he wishes.”
