Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub, from Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abi Umayr, from Ibn Bukayr, who said: Zurarah asked Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about prayer in the skins of foxes, fennec, squirrels, and other types of fur. So He عليه السلام took out a book, which He عليه السلام claimed was dictated by the Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, peace be upon him and his family, (and it said): "Indeed, prayer in the fur of every animal whose meat is forbidden to eat, then prayer in its fur, hair, skin, urine, feces, and everything from it, is invalid. That prayer is not accepted until one prays in something other than it, from that which Allah سبحانه وتعالى has permitted its meat to be eaten." Then Imam عليه السلام said: "O Zurarah, this is from the Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, peace be upon him and his family, by Allah سبحانه وتعالى. So preserve it, O Zurarah. For if it is from that whose meat is permissible to eat, then prayer in its fur, urine, hair, feces, milk, and everything from it is permissible, if you know that it is from a properly slaughtered animal (dhakiyy), slaughtered by the proper method. But if it is other than that, from what you have been prohibited from eating or what is forbidden for you to eat, then prayer in anything from it is invalid, whether it was ritually slaughtered or not."
