حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْحَافِظُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْمُقْرِي كَانَ يُلَقَّبُ بِقَطَاةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى السُّوسِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبَانٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ هَلْ أَخْبَرَكَ النَّبِيُّ ص كَمْ بَعْدَهُ خَلِيفَةً قَالَ نَعَمْ اثْنَا عَشَرَ خَلِيفَةً كُلُّهُمْ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ.
Narrated to us Muhammad bin Umar Hafiz: Narrated to me Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Ali Muqri – alias Qattah – that he said: Narrated to me Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Yahya Soosi: Narrated to us Abdul Aziz bin Aban: Narrated to us Sufyan Thawri from Jabir from Shabi from Masrooq that he said: “I asked Abdullah (Ibn Masud), ‘Did the Prophet ﷺ inform you how many caliphs will there be after him?’ He replied, ‘Yes, twelve caliphs. All of them will be from Quraish.”
