In the narration of Ghiyath ibn Ibrahim from Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq عليه السلام from his father, Imam Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Baqir عليه السلام, it is reported: "Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib عليه السلام was presented in Kufa with a man who had stolen a pigeon, but he did not cut off his hand and said: 'I do not cut off (a hand) for stealing birds.'"
