Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq عليه السلام was asked about the one who is crucified (and thus does not have a burial in the ground) and whether they are subject to the punishment of the grave. Imam عليه السلام said: "Indeed, the Lord عز وجل of the earth is the Lord عز وجل of the air, and Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the Mighty and Majestic, commands the air to press upon him more intensely than the squeezing of the grave."
