Muhammad b. Ibrahim b. Ishaq رضي الله عنه narrated to us. He said: Abu Sa`id al-Hasan b. `Ali al-`Adawi narrated to me in 317 AH when he was 107 years old. He said: Al-Hasan b. Ahmad al-Tafawi narrated to us. He said: Qays b. al-Rabi` narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. al-Khaffaf narrated to us from `Atiyya al-`Awfi from al-Makhduj b. Zayd al-Dhahli. The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم made brotherhood bonds between the Muslims, then said: O `Ali! You are my brother. You are to me as Harun was to Musa, except there is no prophet after me. Did you know, `Ali, that the first to be called for on the Day of Resurrection will be me? I will then stand from the right of the Throne, and I will be gowned in a green garment from the garments of Paradise. Then, our father Ibrahim عليه السلام will be called for, and he will then stand from the right of the Throne into its shade, and he will be gowned in a green garment from the garments of Paradise. Then, the prophets will be called for, one after the other, so they will then stand from the right of the Throne into its shade, and they will be gowned in green garments from the garments of Paradise. Shall I not inform you, `Ali, that my Nation will be the first nation to be judged on the Day of Resurrection? I give you glad tidings, `Ali, that the first [from my Nation] to be called for on the Day of Resurrection is you. This is due to your proximity in relation to me and your status in relation to mine. My banner will be given to you, and it is the Banner of Praise, and you will walk with it between the pillars. Surely, Adam, and all who Allah created will be shaded by the shade of my banner on the Day of Resurrection. Its height is the travel distance of one thousand years. Its hooks are of red ruby, its pole is of shining silver, and its finial is of green pearl. It has three emblems of light: an emblem in the East, an emblem in the West, and an emblem in the middle of the world. There are three lines written on it: (1) In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (2) Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. (3) There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. The length of each line is the travel distance of one thousand years, and its width is the travel distance of one thousand years. You will walk with the banner, with al-Hasan to your right and al-Husayn to your left, until you stand between me and Ibrahim in the shade of the Throne. Then, you will be gowned in a green garment from the garments of Paradise. Then, a caller will call from the Throne: “The best of fathers is your father Ibrahim, and the best of brothers is your brother `Ali.” Surely, and I give you glad tidings, `Ali: you will be called for in the same way that I am called for, you will be gowned in the same way that I am gowned, and you will be greeted in the same way that I am greeted.
