Al-Husayn b. Ahmad b. Idris narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Yahya b. `Imran al-Ash`ari from Muhammad b. Abi’l Sahban from Abi `Imran al-Arami from `Abdillah b. al-Hakam from Jabir from Abi Ja`far al-Baqir . He said: I said to him:

There is a people who, when something of the Quran is mentioned or spoken about, one of them becomes so stunned that, if his hand or his foot were to be cut off, he would not feel anything. So, he said: May Allah be glorified! That is from Satan. They were not ordered to do this. Surely, it is only [to inspire] softness, tenderness, tears, and fear.
