4. My father and Muḥammad ibn Ya’qūb both narrated to me from ‘Ali ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Hāshim, from his father, from Yaḥyā ibn Zakariyyā, from Yazīd ibn ‘Umar ibn Ťalḥah, who said: When Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq ) was in Ḥīrah, he asked me, “Do you not want that which I promised you?” “Yes,” I replied – he meant going to the grave of the Commander of the Believers
. Then the Imam rode his sumpter. His son, Ismā’īl, and I accompanied him. We passed Thawiyyah and then stopped between Ḥīrah and Najaf next to some white-coloured gravel. Imam
and his son, Ismā’īl, descended their sumpters, so I descended my sumpter. We (all) prayed. Then Imam
said to Ismā’īl, “Stand and say Salām to your grandfather, Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali
.” So I asked, “May I sacrifice myself for you! Is Ḥusain
not in Karbalā?” Imam
replied, “Yes. However, when his head was being carried to Shām, one of our servants stole it and buried it next to the Commander of the Believers
.”
