(2) And Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Saʿid informed us, saying: Muhammad bin Salim bin ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Azdi narrated to us from his book in Shawwal of the year 271, saying: Uthman bin Saʿid al-Tawil narrated to us, from Ahmad bin Sulayman, from Musa bin Bakr al-Wasiti, from Bashir al-Nabbal, who said: I arrived in Medina, and he mentioned something similar to the preceding hadith, except that he said: When I arrived in Medina, I said to Abu Jaʿfar [Imam al-Baqir] (peace be upon him): "They say that if the Mahdi were to rise, affairs would be established for him effortlessly, and he would not shed [even] a cupping-glass worth of blood." He (peace be upon him) replied: "No, by the One in whose hand is my soul! If it were to be established for anyone effortlessly, it would have been established for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) when his front teeth were made to bleed and his face was gashed. No, by the One in whose hand is my soul! [It will not be] until we and you wipe away the sweat and the clotted blood." Then he wiped his forehead.
