His Supplication when his Provision was Stinted

allāhumma innaka ibtalaītana fī arzāqinā bisū'i aẓ-ẓanni

O God, Thou hast tried us with distrust in our provisions

wa fī ajālinā biṭūli al-amal

and the expectation of long lives,

ḥattá al-tamasnā ʾarzāqaka min ʿindi al-marzūqīn

until we begged for provisions from those who are provided

wa ṭamʿinā bi-āmālinā fī aʿmār al-muʿammarīn

and craved in our expectations the life-spans of the long-lived!

faṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih

So bless Muhammad and his Household,

wa hab lana yaqeenan saadiqan takfeena bihi min ma'oonati at-talab

give us a true certainty that will suffice us the burden of seeking,

wa alhimna thiqatan khalisatan tuʿfeena biha min shiddati al-nasab

and inspire us with a sincere trust that will release us from the hardship of exertion!

wajʿal mā ṣarraḥta bihī min ʿidaditika fī wahyika

Let Thy clear promise in Thy Revelation

wa ʾatbaʿtahu min qasamika fī kitabika

which Thou hast followed in Thy Book with Thy oath

qaṭiʿan lahtimāmīnā bir-rizqi alladhī takaffalt bihi

cut off our worry about the provision for which Thou hast made Thyself responsible

wa ḥasmān li-lash-tiġāli bi-mā ḍamin-tal-kifāya lahu

and sever our occupation with everything whose sufficiency Thou hast guaranteed!

faqultu waqawluka al-haqqul-asdaq

For Thou hast said - and Thy word is the most truthful truth

wa'aqsamta waqasamuka al-abarru al-awfa

and Thou hast sworn - and Thy oath is the most kept and fulfilled

wa fī al-samāʾi rizqukum wa mā tuʿadoon

"In the heaven are your provision and everything you are promised" (51:22)!

thumma qult: (fawarabbi alssama'i wal-ardi innahu lahaqqun mithla ma annakum tantiquun)

And then Thou hast said, "So by the Lord of heaven and earth, it is as surely true as that you have speech" (51:23)!
