دُعَاؤُهُ فِي التَّفَزُّعِ الى اللهِ

His Supplication in Fleeing to God for Protection

1
اللَهُمَّ إنِّي أَخْلَصْتُ بِانْقِطَاعِي إلَيْكَ،
allāhumma innī akhlaṣtu bi-inqiṭāʿī ilayka
I showed sincerity by cutting myself off from everything but Thee.
2
وَأَقْبَلْتُ بِكُلِّي عَلَيْـكَ،
wa-aqbal-tu bikulli ʿalayka
I approached Thee with my whole self.
3
وَصَـرَفْتُ وَجْهِي عَمَّنْ يَحْتَاجُ إلَى رِفْدِكَ،
waṣarraftu wajhī ʿammān yaḥtāju ilā rifdika
I averted my face from everyone who needs Thy support.
4
وَقَلَبْتُ مَسْأَلَتِي عَمَّنْ لَمْ يَسْتَغْنِ عَنْ فَضْلِكَ،
wa qalabtu mas'ālatī 'ammān lam yastaghni 'an fadlik
I ceased to ask from any who cannot do without Thy bounty.

وَرَأَيْتُ أَنَّ طَلَبَ الْمُحْتَاجِ إلَى الْمُحْتَاجِ
wa ra'aytu anna talaba al-muhtaaji ila al-muhtaaj
I saw that the needy who seeks from the needy
6
سَفَهٌ مِنْ رَأيِهِ وَضَلَّةٌ مِنْ عَقْلِهِ،
safahun min ra'yihi waḍallatun min ʿaqlihi
is foolish in his opinion, and misguided in his intellect.
7
فَكَمْ قَدْ رَأَيْتُ يَـا إلهِيْ
fakam qad ra'aytu yaa ilaahi
How many people have I seen, my God,
8
مِنْ أُناس طَلَبُوا الْعِزَّ بِغَيْرِكَ فَذَلُّوا،
min ʾunās ṭalabū al-ʿizz bi-ghayrika faḏallū
who sought exaltation through other than Thee and were abased,
9
وَرَامُوا الثَّرْوَةَ مِنْ سِوَاكَ فَافْتَقَرُوا،
warāmū al-tharwah min siwāka fa-aftaqarū
who wanted wealth from someone else and became poor,
10
وَحَاوَلُوا الارْتِفَاعَ فَاتَّضَعُوا،
waḥāwalo al-irtifāʿa fa-attadaʿū
who tried to rise high and fell down low!
11
فَصحَّ بِمُعَايَنَةِ أَمْثَالِهِمْ حَازِمٌ
faṣḥḥa bi-muʿāyanati ʾamthālihim ḥāzimun
Observing the likes of them corrects a prudent man;
12
وَفَّقَهُ اعْتِبَارُهُ
waffaqahu iʿtibāruhu
his taking heed gives him success;
13
وَأَرْشَدَهُ إلَى طَرِيقِ صَوَابِهِ بِاخْتِبَارِهِ
wa ʾarshadahu ʾilá ṭarīqi ṣawābihi bi-iḫtibārihi
his choosing the best guides him to the path of right.
14
فَأَنْتَ يَا مَوْلايَ
fa'anta ya mawlaya
So Thou, my Master,
15
دُونَ كُلِّ مَسْؤُول مَوْضِعُ مَسْأَلَتِي
dūna kulli mas'ūl mawḍiʿu mas'alatī
art the object of my asking to the exclusion of all those who are asked
16
وَدُونَ كُلِّ مَطْلُوب إلَيْهِ وَلِيُّ حَاجَتِي.
wa dūna kulli maṭlūbin ilayhi wa waliyyu ḥājatī
and the patron of my need to the exclusion of all those from whom requests are made.
17
الْمَخْصُوصُ قَبْلَ كُلِّ مَدْعُوٍّ بِدَعْوَتِي
al-makhṣūṣ qabla kulli maddaʿuwīn bidʿātī
Thou art singled out for my call before all who are called;
18
لاَ يَشْرَكُكَ أَحَدٌ فِي رَجَائِي،
lā yashrakuka ʾaḥadun fī rajāʾī
none is associated with Thee in my hope,
19
وَلاَ يَتَّفِقُ أَحَدٌ مَعَكَ فِي دُعَائِي،
wa lā yattafiq'u ʾaḥadun maʿaka fī duʿāʾī
none comes along with Thee in my supplication,
20
وَلاَ يَنْظِمُهُ وَإيَّاكَ نِدَائِي
walā yanẓimuhu wa-iyyāka nidā’ī
nor does any join with Thee within it, for to Thee is my appeal.
21
لَكَ يَا إلهِي وَحْدَانِيَّةُ الْعَدَدِ،
laka ya ilāhī waḥdāniyyatu al-ʿadad
To Thee, my God, belongs the Unity of number,
22
وَمَلَكَةُ الْقُدْرَةِ الصَّمَدِ،
wa malakatu al-qudrah al-ṣamad
the property of eternal power,
23
وَفَضِيلَةُ الْحَوْلِ وَالْقُوَّةِ،
wa faḍīlatu al-ḥawli wal-qūwwati
the excellence of force and strength,
24
وَدَرَجَةُ الْعُلُوِّ وَالرِّفْعَةِ
wadarajatu al-ʿuluwwi wal-rrifʿati
the degree of sublimity and elevation.
25
وَمَنْ سِوَاكَ مَرْحُومٌ فِي عُمْرِهِ،
wa man siwaka marhūmun fī ʿumrih
Everyone other than Thee is the object of compassion in his lifetime,
26
مَغْلُوبٌ عَلَى أَمْرِهِ، مَقْهُورٌ عَلَى شَأنِهِ،
maghloobun ʿalaa amrih, maqhooorun ʿalaa shaʾnihi
overcome in his affair, overwhelmed in his situation,
27
مُخْتَلِفُ الْحَالاَتِ، مُتَنَقِّلٌ فِي الصِّفَاتِ.
mukhtalif al-ḥalāt, mutanaqquil fi aṣ-ṣifāt
diverse in states, constantly changing in attributes.
28
فَتَعَالَيْتَ عَنِ الأشْبَاهِ وَالاضْـدَادِ،
fataʿālayta ʿani al-ashbāhi wal-adad
So Thou art high exalted above likenesses and opposites,
29
وَتَكَبَّـرْتَ عَنِ الأمْثَـالِ وَالأنْدَادِ،
wa takabbartu ʿani al-amthāl wa al-andād
proudly magnified beyond similitudes and rivals!
30
فَسُبْحَانَكَ لاَ إلهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ.
fa subḥānaka lā ʾilaha ʾilla anta
Glory be to Thee! There is no God but Thou.
