Book 1, Chapter 137

Prohibition on exposing oneself for accusation
1 Ḥadīth

وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (عليه السلام) مَنْ عَرَّضَ نَفْسَهُ لِلتُّهَمَةِ فَلَا يَلُومَنَّ مَنْ أَسَاءَ بِهِ الظَّنَّ وَ مَنْ كَتَمَ سِرَّهُ كَانَتِ الْخِيَرَةُ فِي يَدِهِ.


137. And by this chain, who has narrated the following: Imam (a.s) said: ‘Amir-ul-Momineen (a.s) said: ‘The one who exposes himself for the accusation, so he should not blame the one who thinks bad about him, and the one who conceals his secret, would have the good in his hands (is secure from that)’.
