عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَرُدُّ الطِّيبَ قَالَ لَا يَنْبَغِي لَهُ أَنْ يَرُدَّ الْكَرَامَةَ .

1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah ibn Mehran who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who refuses to accept perfumes. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not proper for him to reject an honor.”’ 

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ أُتِيَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) بِدُهْنٍ وَ قَدْ كَانَ ادَّهَنَ فَادَّهَنَ فَقَالَ إِنَّا لَا نَرُدُّ الطِّيبَ .

2. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad al-Ash‘ariy from ibn al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that once oil was brought to ’Amir al-Mu’minin when he had already applied oil (perfume). He applied the oil offered to him saying, “We do not reject perfumes.’”” 

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ جَهْمٍ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) فَأَخْرَجَ إِلَيَّ مَخْزَنَةً فِيهَا مِسْكٌ وَ قَالَ خُذْ مِنْ هَذَا فَأَخَذْتُ مِنْهُ شَيْئاً فَتَمَسَّحْتُ بِهِ فَقَالَ أَصْلِحْ وَ اجْعَلْ فِي لَبَّتِكَ مِنْهُ قَالَ فَأَخَذْتُ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا فَجَعَلْتُهُ فِي لَبَّتِي فَقَالَ لِي أَصْلِحْ فَأَخَذْتُ مِنْهُ أَيْضاً فَمَكَثَ فِي يَدِي مِنْهُ شَيْ‏ءٌ صَالِحٌ فَقَالَ لِي اجْعَلْ فِي لَبَّتِكَ فَفَعَلْتُ ثُمَّ قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) لَا يَأْبَى الْكَرَامَةَ إِلَّا حِمَارٌ قَالَ قُلْتُ مَا مَعْنَى ذَلِكَ قَالَ الطِّيبُ وَ الْوِسَادَةُ وَ عَدَّ أَشْيَاءَ.

3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from al-Hassan ibn Jahm who has said the following: “I once visited abu al-Hassan (a.s.). He took out a container with musk in it and said, ‘Apply it and place in your nostril.’ He (the narrator) has said, ‘I took a little and applied to my nostrils.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Apply more.’ I then took more from it and something from it remained on my hand. He (the Imam) said, ‘Apply it to your nostril.’ I applied it.’ He (the Imam) said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘No one rejects honor except a donkey.’ He (the narrator) has said, ‘I then asked, what it means?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is perfumes, pillows’, and he (the Imam) counted certain other things.’” 

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ هِلَالٍ عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) كَانَ لَا يَرُدُّ الطِّيبَ وَ الْحَلْوَاءَ .

4. Muhammad ibn Yahya Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Hilal from ‘Isa ibn ‘Abd Allah from his father from his grandfather who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, would not refuse to accept perfume and sweet (fruit).”’
