Al-Kāfi

أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ عَنْ أَبِي الصَّبَّاحِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنِ الذَّهَبِ يُحَلَّى بِهِ الصِّبْيَانُ فَقَالَ كَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ( عليه السلام ) يُحَلِّي وُلْدَهُ وَ نِسَاءَهُ بِالذَّهَبِ وَ الْفِضَّةِ .

1. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il from Ali ibn al-Nu’man from abu al-Sabbah al-Kinani who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of children; if they can use gold as ornaments. He (the Imam) said that Ali ibn al-Husayn, (a.s.) allowed his children and women to use gold and silver as ornaments.’”

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ وَ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ جَمِيعاً عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ سِرْحَانَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنِ الذَّهَبِ يُحَلَّى بِهِ الصِّبْيَانُ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ كَانَ أَبِي ( عليه السلام ) لَيُحَلِّي وُلْدَهُ وَ نِسَاءَهُ بِالذَّهَبِ وَ الْفِضَّةِ فَلَا بَأْسَ بِهِ .

2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ and Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr all from Dawud ibn Sarhan who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of children; if they can use gold as ornaments. He (the Imam) said, ‘My father (a.s.), allowed his children and women to use gold and silver as ornaments, so it is not unlawful.’”

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنْ حِلْيَةِ النِّسَاءِ بِالذَّهَبِ وَ الْفِضَّةِ فَقَالَ لَا بَأْسَ .

3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from al-‘Ala’ from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about women’s using gold and silver as ornaments. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not unlawful.’”

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ نَعْلُ سَيْفِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) وَ قَائِمَتُهُ فِضَّةً وَ كَانَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ حَلَقٌ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ وَ لَبِسْتُ دِرْعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) فَكُنْتُ أَسْحَبُهَا وَ فِيهَا ثَلَاثُ حَلَقَاتِ فِضَّةٍ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهَا وَ ثِنْتَانِ مِنْ خَلْفِهَا .

4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that Nad (the end of the sheath) al-Qa’imah (the handle) of the sword of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, was of silver and in between there were rings of silver. I once wore the armor of the Messenger of Allah and I trailed it on the ground. It had three rings of silver, one in front and two on the back.’”

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ لَيْسَ بِتَحْلِيَةِ السَّيْفِ بَأْسٌ بِالذَّهَبِ وَ الْفِضَّةِ .

5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘ Umayr from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is not unlawful to decorate the sword with gold and silver.’”

الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنِ الْمُثَنَّى عَنْ حَاتِمِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّ حِلْيَةَ سَيْفِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) كَانَتْ فِضَّةً كُلُّهَا قَائِمَتُهُ وَ قِبَاعُهُ .

6. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from al-Muthanna’ from Hatim ibn Sulayman who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘The sword of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, was decorated with gold and silver, as well as its Qa’imah (handle) and Qiba‘ (hilt).”’

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ سِرْحَانَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ لَيْسَ بِتَحْلِيَةِ الْمَصَاحِفِ وَ السُّيُوفِ بِالذَّهَبِ وَ الْفِضَّةِ بَأْسٌ .

7. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr from Dawud ibn Sarhan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is not unlawful to decorate al-Musahaf (Quran and books) and swords with gold and silver.’”

حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ غَيْرِ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ لَمْ تَزَلِ النِّسَاءُ يَلْبَسْنَ الْحُلِيَّ .مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) مِثْلَهُ .

8. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad ibn Sama‘ah from more than one person from Aban from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘Women can continue wearing ornaments.’” Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad from Aban from Muhammad ibn Muslim from abu Ja‘far (a.s.), a similar Hadith.

عدة من أصحابنا، عن سهل بن زياد، عن جعفر بن محمد الأشعري، عن ابن القداح، عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: إن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله تختم في يساره بخاتم من ذهب ثم خرج على الناس وطفق الناس ينظرون إليه فوضع يده اليمنى على خنصره اليسرى حتى رجع إلى البيت فرمى به فما لبسه.عدة من أصحابنا، عن أحمد بن محمد، عن الوشاء، عن المثنى، عن حاتم بن إسماعيل عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام مثله.

9. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad al-Ash‘ariy from ibn al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, wore the ring on his left hand which was of gold then he appeared among people who continued staring at it. He (the Messenger of Allah) placed his right hand on the pinky (little finger) of his left hand until he returned home; then threw it and did not wear it again.’” From abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), a narration, similar to the above Hadith, is also made by a number of our people from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from al-Washsha’, from al-Muthanna’, from Hatim ibn ’Isma‘il.

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ رِبْعِيٍّ عَنِ الْفُضَيْلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنْ سَرِيرٍ فِيهِ الذَّهَبُ أَ يَصْلُحُ إِمْسَاكُهُ فِي الْبَيْتِ فَقَالَ إِنْ كَانَ ذَهَباً فَلَا وَ إِنْ كَانَ مَاءَ الذَّهَبِ فَلَا بَأْسَ .

10. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father from Muhammad ibn Sinan from Hammad ibn ‘Uthaman from Rib‘iy from al-Fudayl ibn Yasar who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a bed which has gold in it; if it is proper to keep it in the house. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not unlawful if it is golden; but if it is gold then it is not lawful.’”
