مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا قَالَ كَانَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) رُبَّمَا أَطْعَمَنَا الْفَرَانِيَّ وَ الْأَخْبِصَةَ ثُمَّ يُطْعِمُ الْخُبْزَ وَ الزَّيْتَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ لَوْ دَبَّرْتَ أَمْرَكَ حَتَّى تَعْتَدِلَ فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا نَتَدَبَّرُ بِأَمْرِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فَإِذَا وَسَّعَ عَلَيْنَا وَسَّعْنَا وَ إِذَا قَتَّرَ عَلَيْنَا قَتَّرْنَا .
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, would feed us milk with sugar or a mixture of dates and bread, then give us bread and oil. It was then said to him (the Imam), ’We wish you organize and plan your affairs to balance them out.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘We do so by the command of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious. When He expands sustenance for us, we also expand spending; and when He gives us in measures, we also spend in measures.”’
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رِئَابٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ ثَلَاثَةُ أَشْيَاءَ لَا يُحَاسَبُ عَلَيْهِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنُ طَعَامٌ يَأْكُلُهُ وَ ثَوْبٌ يَلْبَسُهُ وَ زَوْجَةٌ صَالِحَةٌ تُعَاوِنُهُ وَ يُحْصِنُ بِهَا فَرْجَهُ .
2. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from ibn Mahbub from ibn Ri’ab from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘There are three things for which Allah does not ask a believing person for accounting. One of such item is the food that he eats, the clothes that he wears and a virtuous wife who cooperates and with her he protects his chastity.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ قَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) جَمَاعَةً فَدَعَا بِطَعَامٍ مَا لَنَا عَهْدٌ بِمِثْلِهِ لَذَاذَةً وَ طِيباً وَ أُوتِينَا بِتَمْرٍ نَنْظُرُ فِيهِ إِلَى وُجُوهِنَا مِنْ صَفَائِهِ وَ حُسْنِهِ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ لَتُسْأَلُنَّ عَنْ هَذَا النَّعِيمِ الَّذِي نُعِّمْتُمْ بِهِ عِنْدَ ابْنِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله )فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَكْرَمُ وَ أَجَلُّ مِنْ أَنْ يُطْعِمَكُمْ طَعَاماً فَيُسَوِّغَكُمُوهُ ثُمَّ يَسْأَلَكُمْ عَنْهُ وَ لَكِنْ يَسْأَلُكُمْ عَمَّا أَنْعَمَ عَلَيْكُمْ بِمُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) .
3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Khalid from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from abu Sa‘id from abu Hamzah who has said the following: “Once we were in a group with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam. He (the Imam) ordered such a food the like of which in good taste and elegance we had never seen. Thereafter dates were brought, in which we could see the reflection of our faces because of their clarity and goodness. A man then said, ‘We will be held accountable for these bounties that we have received in the house of the child of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, then said, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, is honorable and glorious. Once He gives you food and makes it delicious, He then does not hold you accountable for it. However, He will ask you about what He has granted through Muhammad and Ale (of) Muhammad, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ شِهَابِ بْنِ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) لَيْسَ فِي الطَّعَامِ سَرَفٌ .
4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn al-Hakam from Shihab ibn ‘Abde Rabbihi who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Extragance (overspending) is not applicable in food.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْجَوْهَرِيِّ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ سَدِيرٍ الصَّيْرَفِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي خَالِدٍ الْكَابُلِيِّ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) فَدَعَا بِالْغَدَاءِ فَأَكَلْتُ مَعَهُ طَعَاماً مَا أَكَلْتُ طَعَاماً قَطُّ أَنْظَفَ مِنْهُ وَ لَا أَطْيَبَ فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا مِنَ الطَّعَامِ قَالَ يَا أَبَا خَالِدٍ كَيْفَ رَأَيْتَ طَعَامَكَ أَوْ قَالَ طَعَامَنَا قُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ مَا رَأَيْتُ أَطْيَبَ مِنْهُ وَ لَا أَنْظَفَ قَطُّ وَ لَكِنِّي ذَكَرْتُ الْآيَةَ الَّتِي فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لَتُسْئَلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ النَّعِيمِ قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) لَا إِنَّمَا تُسْأَلُونَ عَمَّا أَنْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَقِّ .
5. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah, from his father from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad al-Jawhariy from al-Harith ibn Hariz from Sadir al-Sayrafiy from abu Khalid al-Kabuliy who has said the following: “I once visited abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam. He (the Imam) ordered food. I ate a food with him the like of which I never before had seen in cleanness and elegance. When we finished our food he (the Imam) asked, ‘O abu Khalid, how was your food’ or that he (the Imam) said, ‘Our food?’ I said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, I had never seen such a food in delicacy and cleanness ever before; but I remembered the verse which is in the book of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘. . . on that day you will be asked about the bounties.’ (108:8) Abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said, ‘No, you will be asked only about the truth in which you are, (belief in the divine authority of ‘A’immah).”’
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ شِهَابِ بْنِ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) اعْمَلْ طَعَاماً وَ تَنَوَّقْ فِيهِ وَ ادْعُ عَلَيْهِ أَصْحَابَكَ .
6. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn af-Hakam from Shihab ibn ‘ Abd Rabbibi who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Prepare food and make it unique; then invite your friends for it.’”
