One’s Intention about Payment of Mahr
3 Aḥadīth
Ḥadīth 1

1- عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمَّادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ مَنْ أَمْهَرَ مَهْراً ثُمَّ لا يَنْوِي قَضَاءَهُ كَانَ بِمَنْزِلَةِ السَّارِقِ.

1. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Salih ibn abu Hammad from ibn Faddal from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one agrees to pay mahr (dower) then decides not to pay it, he is like a thief.’”

Ḥadīth 2

2- الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ مَنْ تَزَوَّجَ الْمَرْأَةَ وَلا يَجْعَلُ فِي نَفْسِهِ أَنْ يُعْطِيَهَا مَهْرَهَا فَهُوَ زِنًى.

2. Al-Husayn from Muhammad has narrated from Mu’alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Hassan ibn Ah from Hammad ibn ‘Uthaman who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one marries a woman and then decides in his soul not to pay her mahr (dower), he has committed fornication.’”

Ḥadīth 3

3- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ خَلَفِ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنِ الْفُضَيْلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) فِي الرَّجُلِ يَتَزَوَّجُ الْمَرْأَةَ وَلا يَجْعَلُ فِي نَفْسِهِ أَنْ يُعْطِيَهَا مَهْرَهَا فَهُوَ زِنًى.

3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father from Khalaf ibn Hammad from ibn Rib’iy ibn ‘Abd Allah from al-Fudayl ibn Yasar who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If a man marries a woman and does not tell his soul to pay her mahr (dower) it is fornication.’”
