Al-Kāfi - Volume 5 > Women’s Desire More Intense than Men’s
Hadith #1

1- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عُلْوَانَ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ طَرِيفٍ عَنِ الأصْبَغِ بْنِ نُبَاتَةَ قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) خَلَقَ اللهُ الشَّهْوَةَ عَشَرَةَ أَجْزَاءٍ فَجَعَلَ تِسْعَةَ أَجْزَاءٍ فِي النِّسَاءِ وَجُزْءاً وَاحِداً فِي الرِّجَالِ وَلَوْ لا مَا جَعَلَ اللهُ فِيهِنَّ مِنَ الْحَيَاءِ عَلَى قَدْرِ أَجْزَاءِ الشَّهْوَةِ لَكَانَ لِكُلِّ رَجُلٍ تِسْعُ نِسْوَةٍ مُتَعَلِّقَاتٍ بِهِ.

1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id ibn ‘Ulwan from Sa‘d ibn Tarif from al-Asbagh ibn Nubatah who has said the following: “’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Allah created desire of ten parts, of which nine parts are placed in women and only one part in men. If He did not place shyness in women of a similar (nine out of ten) amount in women like desire, nine women would attach themselves to one man.’”



Hadith #2

2- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَمَّنْ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) إِنَّ اللهَ جَعَلَ لِلْمَرْأَةِ صَبْرَ عَشَرَةِ رِجَالٍ فَإِذَا هَاجَتْ كَانَتْ لَهَا قُوَّةُ شَهْوَةِ عَشَرَةِ رِجَالٍ.

2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Khalid from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr from those who narrated to him from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Allah has placed in women a degree of patience which is ten times greater than the patience of men. If excited she has a force of desire which is equal to ten men.”’



Hadith #3

3- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي خَالِدٍ الْقَمَّاطِ عَنْ ضُرَيْسٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ إِنَّ النِّسَاءَ أُعْطِينَ بُضْعَ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ وَصَبْرَ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ.

3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Muhammad ibn Sinan from abu Khalid al-Qammat from Durays who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘Women are given desires of twelve parts and patience of twelve parts.’”



Hadith #4

4- أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ ضُرَيْسٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) أَنَّ النِّسَاءَ أُعْطِينَ بُضْعَ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ وَصَبْرَ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ.

4. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Durays who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘Women are given desires of twelve parts and patience of twelve parts.’”



Hadith #5

5- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ مَرْوَكِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ زُرْعَةَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ فُضِّلَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ عَلَى الرَّجُلِ بِتِسْعَةٍ وَتِسْعِينَ مِنَ اللَّذَّةِ وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ أَلْقَى عَلَيْهِنَّ الْحَيَاءَ.

5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from certain persons of his people from Marwak ibn ‘Ubayd from Zur’ah ibn Muhammad from Sanaa ‘ah ibn Mehran from abu Basir who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘Women have an additional ninety-nine parts of enjoyment above men but Allah has placed shyness upon them.’”



Hadith #6

6- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مَسْعَدَةَ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ جَعَلَ لِلْمَرْأَةِ أَنْ تَصْبِرَ صَبْرَ عَشَرَةِ رِجَالٍ فَإِذَا حَصَلَتْ زَادَهَا قُوَّةَ عَشَرَةِ رِجَالٍ.

6. Ali has narrated from Harun ibn Muslim from Mas’adah ibn Sadaqah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Allah has placed ten times more patience in women above men, but when grown (excited) she has the force (of desire) like ten men.’”
