Ali ibn Hatim al-Qazwini said: Abu al-Hasan Muhammad ibn Amr narrated to me, from Abu Abdullah al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan al-Husayni, from Ibrahim ibn Muhammad al-Hamadhani, who said: The narrations differed regarding the Fitrah, so I (narrator) wrote to Abu al-Hasan, the companion of al-Askar (a.s), peace be upon him, asking him about that, so he wrote: “The Fitrah is one sa’ from the staple food of your land. Upon the people of Makkah, Yemen, al-Taif, the outskirts of al-Sham, al-Yamamah, al-Bahrayn, the two Iraqs, Persia, al-Ahwaz, and Kirman, it is dates; And upon the people of the middle regions of al-Sham, it is raisins; And upon the people of al-Jazirah, al-Mawsil, and all of al-Jibal, it is wheat or barley; And upon the people of Tabaristan, it is rice; And upon the people of Khurasan, it is wheat, except the people of Marw and al-Rayy, for upon them is raisins; And upon the people of Egypt, it is wheat; And whoever is besides that, then upon them is what prevails as their staple food. And whoever from Bedouins dwells in deserts, then upon them is dried yoghurt (aqit). And the Fitrah is upon you and upon all the people, and upon whoever you support, whether male or female, young or old, free or slave, weaned or suckling. You pay it by weight as six artal according to the ratl of al-Madinah, and the ratl is one hundred and ninety-five dirhams, so the Fitrah is one thousand one hundred and seventy dirhams.”
