Tahdhīb al-Aḥkām

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنِ اَلْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ مَعْرُوفٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَهْزِيَارَ عَنِ اَلْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ جَمِيلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ اَلزَّلْزَلَةِ فَقَالَ« أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ عَلَيْهِمُ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ« إِنَّ ذَا اَلْقَرْنَيْنِ لَمَّا اِنْتَهَى إِلَى اَلسَّدِّ جَاوَزَهُ فَدَخَلَ فِي اَلظُّلْمَةِ فَإِذَا هُوَ بِمَلَكٍ قَائِمٍ طُولُهُ خَمْسُمِائَةِ ذِرَاعٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ اَلْمَلَكُ يَا ذَا اَلْقَرْنَيْنِ أَ مَا كَانَ خَلْفَكَ مَسْلَكٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ ذُو اَلْقَرْنَيْنِ وَ مَنْ أَنْتَ قَالَ أَنَا مَلَكٌ مِنْ مَلاَئِكَةِ اَلرَّحْمَنِ مُوَكَّلٌ بِهَذَا اَلْجَبَلِ وَ لَيْسَ مِنْ جَبَلٍ خَلَقَهُ اَللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلاَّ وَ لَهُ عِرْقٌ إِلَى هَذَا اَلْجَبَلِ فَإِذَا أَرَادَ اَللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَنْ يُزَلْزِلَ مَدِينَةً أَوْحَى إِلَيَّ فَزَلْزَلْتُهَا»»

Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Mahbub, from Al-Abbas ibn Ma’ruf, from Ali ibn Mahziyar, from Al-Husayn ibn Sa’id, from Abdillah ibn Amr, from Hammad ibn Uthman, from Jamil, from Abu Abdillah (a.s), who said: I asked Imam al-Sadiq (a.s) about the earthquake (al-zalzalah). Imam (a.s) said: “My father (a.s) informed me from his father (a.s), from his forefathers (a.s), peace be upon them, who said that the Messenger of Allah (swt), said: ‘Indeed, when Dhul-Qarnayn reached the barrier, he passed beyond it and entered into the darkness. There he came upon an angel standing, whose height was five hundred cubits. The angel said to him: “O Dhul-Qarnayn, was there no path behind you?” Dhul-Qarnayn said to him: “And who are you?” He (the angel) replied: “I am an angel from the angels of the All-Merciful, appointed over this mountain. There is no mountain that Allah (swt), Mighty and Majestic, has created except that it has a root connected to this mountain. So when Allah (swt), Mighty and Majestic, wills to shake a city, He (azj) reveals to me, and I shake it.”

عَنْهُ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ اَلسِّنْدِيِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ جَمِيلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَ قَالَ:« صَلاَةُ اَلْكُسُوفِ فَرِيضَةٌ»

From him, from Ali ibn al-Sindi, from Muhammad ibn Abi Umayr, from Jamil, from Abu Abdillah (a.s), who said: Imam al-Sadiq (a.s) said: “The prayer of ‘al-Kusuf’ (prayer of eclipse) is an obligation (fardh).”

عَنْهُ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ اَلْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مُصَدِّقِ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ عَنْ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ قَالَ:« إِنْ صَلَّيْتَ اَلْكُسُوفَ إِلَى أَنْ يَذْهَبَ اَلْكُسُوفُ عَنِ اَلشَّمْسِ وَاَلْقَمَرِ وَتُطَوِّلُ فِي صَلاَتِكَ فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ أَفْضَلُ وَ إِنْ أَحْبَبْتَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ فَتَفْرُغَ مِنْ صَلاَتِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَذْهَبَ اَلْكُسُوفُ فَهُوَ جَائِزٌ وَ إِنْ لَمْ تَعْلَمْ حَتَّى يَذْهَبَ اَلْكُسُوفُ ثُمَّ عَلِمْتَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ صَلاَةُ اَلْكُسُوفِ وَ إِنْ أَعْلَمَكَ أَحَدٌ وَ أَنْتَ نَائِمٌ فَعَلِمْتَ ثُمَّ غَلَبَتْكَ عَيْنُكَ فَلَمْ تُصَلِّ فَعَلَيْكَ قَضَاؤُهَا»

From him, from Ali ibn Khalid, from Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Faddal, from Amr ibn Sa'id, from Musaddiq ibn Sadaqah, from Ammar, from Abu Abdillah (a.s), peace be upon him, who said: Imam al-Sadiq (a.s) said: “If you pray the eclipse prayer (al-kusuf) until the eclipse of the sun or the moon passes, and you prolong your prayer, then that is better. But if you wish to pray and finish your prayer before the eclipse ends, that is permissible. And if you did not know until the eclipse ended, then you came to know after that, there is no eclipse prayer (due upon you). And if someone informed you while you were asleep, and you became aware, then sleep overcame you and you did not pray, then you must make it up.”

عَنْهُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ اَلْحُسَيْنِ عَنِ اَلْحَجَّالِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ: ذَكَرْنَا اِنْكِسَافَ اَلْقَمَرِ وَ مَا يَلْقَى اَلنَّاسَ مِنْ شِدَّتِهِ قَالَ فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ« إِذَا اِنْجَلَى مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ فَقَدِ اِنْجَلَى»

From him, from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn, from Al-Hajjaj, from Hammad ibn Uthman, from Abu Abdillah (a.s), peace be upon him, who said: We mentioned the eclipse of the moon and what the people suffer from its intensity. So Abu Abdillah (a.s), peace be upon him, said: “If any part of it becomes uncovered, then it has become uncovered.” (meaning the eclipse is considered ‘finished’ when a part of it gets ‘uncovered’)

عَنْهُ عَنْ عِدَّةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اَلْحَمِيدِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ اَلْفَضْلِ اَلْوَاسِطِيِّ قَالَ: كَتَبْتُ إِلَى اَلرِّضَا عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ إِذَا اِنْكَسَفَتِ اَلشَّمْسُ وَ اَلْقَمَرُ وَ أَنَا رَاكِبٌ لاَ أَقْدِرُ عَلَى اَلنُّزُولِ قَالَ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيَّ« صَلِّ عَلَى مَرْكَبِكَ اَلَّذِي أَنْتَ عَلَيْهِ»

From him, from a group of our companions, from Muhammad ibn Abd al-Hamid, from Ali ibn al-Fadl al-Wasiti, who said: I wrote to Imam al-Ridha (a.s), peace be upon him, (asking) “If the sun or the moon is eclipsed while I am riding, and I am unable to dismount?” So Imam (a.s) wrote back to me: “Pray on your mount which you are on.”

عَنْهُ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ اَلْبَرْقِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي اَلْبَخْتَرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ:« أَنَّ عَلِيّاً عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ صَلَّى فِي كُسُوفِ اَلشَّمْسِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فِي أَرْبَعِ سَجَدَاتٍ وَ أَرْبَعِ رَكَعَاتٍ قَامَ فَقَرَأَ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَقَرَأَ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَدَعَا مِثْلَ رَكْعَتِهِ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَفَعَلَ مِثْلَ مَا فَعَلَ فِي اَلْأُولَى فِي قِرَاءَتِهِ وَ قِيَامِهِ وَ رُكُوعِهِ وَ سُجُودِهِ سَوَاءً»

From him, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from Muhammad ibn Khalid al-Barqi, from Abu al-Bakhtari, from Abu Abdillah (a.s), peace be upon him: Imam al-Sadiq (a.s) said: “Indeed, Imam Ali (a.s), peace be upon him, prayed during the solar eclipse; two rak‘ahs with four prostrations and four bowings. He (a.s) stood and recited, then bowed, then raised his head and recited again, then bowed, then stood and supplicated (like in his first rak‘ah), then prostrated twice. Then He (a.s) stood and did the same as he did in the first rak‘ah in his recitation, standing, bowing, and prostration all of it equally.”

عَنْهُ عَنْ بُنَانِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ اَلْمُحَسِّنِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ:« اِنْكَسَفَ اَلْقَمَرُ فَخَرَجَ أَبِي وَ خَرَجْتُ مَعَهُ إِلَى اَلْمَسْجِدِ اَلْحَرَامِ فَصَلَّى ثَمَانَ رَكَعَاتٍ كَمَا يُصَلِّي رَكْعَةً وَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ»

From him, from Bunan ibn Muhammad, from Al-Muhassin ibn Ahmad, from Yunus ibn Ya'qub, who said: Abu Abdillah (a.s), peace be upon him, said: “The moon was eclipsed, so my father (Imam al-Baqir (a.s)) went out, and I went out with him to the ‘Sacred Mosque’, And He (a.s) prayed eight rak‘ahs, like how one prays with a rak‘ah and two prostrations.”

قال محمد بن الحسن الذي نعمل عليه هو ما قدمناه من أن صلاة الكسوف عشر ركعات وأربع سجدات على التفصيل الذي بيناه والوجه في هذين الخبرين التقية لانهما موافقان لمذهب بعض العامة والذي يؤكد ما قدمناه ما رواه

Muhammad ibn al-Hasan said: “What we act upon is what we have presented earlier, that the prayer of ‘al-Kusuf’ (prayer of eclipse) is ten rak‘ahs and four prostrations, according to the detailed explanation we have given. And the interpretation of these two reports is taqiyya (dissimulation), because they are in agreement with the school of some of the general public (‘ammah, non-Shia).” What confirms what we have presented is what was narrated:

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ اَلْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ اَلْهَاشِمِيِّ عَنْ مَرْوَانَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنِ اِبْنِ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ:« إِذَا اِنْكَسَفَتِ اَلشَّمْسُ وَاَلْقَمَرُ فَانْكَسَفَ كُلُّهَا فَإِنَّهُ يَنْبَغِي لِلنَّاسِ أَنْ يَفْزَعُوا إِلَى إِمَامٍ لِيُصَلِّيَ بِهِمْ وَ أَيُّهُمَا كَسَفَ بَعْضُهُ فَإِنَّهُ يُجْزِي اَلرَّجُلَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ وَحْدَهُ وَ صَلاَةُ اَلْكُسُوفِ عَشْرُ رَكَعَاتٍ وَ أَرْبَعُ سَجَدَاتٍ كُسُوفُ اَلشَّمْسِ أَشَدُّ عَلَى اَلنَّاسِ وَ اَلْبَهَائِمِ»

Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Mahbub, from Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn Ali, from Ali ibn Ya'qub al-Hashimi, from Marwan ibn Muslim, from Ibn Abi Ya'fur, from Abu Abdillah (a.s), peace be upon him, who said: Imam al-Sadiq (a.s) said: “If the sun or the moon is eclipsed, and the entire body is eclipsed, then it is proper for the people to hasten to an imam (of prayer) so that he may pray with them. And if either of them is partially eclipsed, then it suffices for a man to pray alone. And the prayer of ‘al-Kusuf’ (prayer of eclipse) is ten rak‘ahs and four prostrations. The eclipse of the sun is more severe upon the people and the animals.”

عَنْهُ عَنِ اَلْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ اَلْكُوفِيِّ عَنِ اَلْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ غَالِبِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ رَوْحِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اَلرَّحِيمِ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ عَنْ صَلاَةِ اَلْكُسُوفِ تُصَلَّى جَمَاعَةً قَالَ« جَمَاعَةً وَ غَيْرَ جَمَاعَةٍ»

From him, from Al-Hasan ibn Ali al-Kufi, from Al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Faddal, from Ghalib ibn Uthman, from Rawh ibn Abd al-Rahim, who said: I asked Abu Abdillah (a.s), peace be upon him, about the eclipse prayer, whether it is prayed in congregation. Imam (a.s) said: “In congregation and not in congregation.” (meaning whichever that you wish)

عَنْهُ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ اَلْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ:« اِنْكَسَفَتِ اَلشَّمْسُ وَ أَنَا فِي اَلْحَمَّامِ فَعَلِمْتُ بَعْدَ مَا خَرَجْتُ فَلَمْ أَقْضِ»

From him, from Ahmad ibn al-Husayn, from Ubayd ibn Zurarah, from his father, from Abu Ja’far (a.s), peace be upon him, who said: Imam al-Sadiq (a.s) said: “The sun was eclipsed while I was in the bath, and I came to know about it after I came out, so I did not make it up.”

عَنْهُ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ اَلْقَاسِمِ وَ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَخِيهِ مُوسَى بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَلَيْهِمَا اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ صَلاَةِ اَلْكُسُوفِ وَ هَلْ عَلَى مَنْ تَرَكَهَا قَضَاءٌ قَالَ« إِذَا فَاتَتْكَ فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ قَضَاءٌ»

From him, from Ahmad, from Musa ibn al-Qasim and Abu Qatadah, from Ali ibn Ja’far, from his brother Imam Musa ibn Ja’far (a.s), peace be upon them both, who said: I asked Imam al-Kadhim (a.s) about the eclipse prayer, and whether one who misses it must make it up. Imam (a.s) said: “If you missed it, then there is no make-up (qadah) upon you.”

قال محمد بن الحسن قد بينا الوجه في أمثال هذين الخبرين وجملته انه إذا احترق القرص كله يجب القضاء على من فاتته صلاة الكسوف وان لم يحترق كله وفاتته لم يكن عليه قضاء ولا تنافي بين الاخبار ولا ينافي هذا ما رواه عمار الساباطي في الخبر الذي قدمناه من قوله انه انما يلزم القضاء على من اعلم فلم يصل حتى فاتته لان الوجه في هذه الرواية أن تحملها على انه إذا احترق بعض القرص وتوانى عن الصلاة فحينئذ لزمه قضاؤها ونحن انما اسقطنا القضاء عمن لم يعلم باحتراق بعض القرص أصلا وعلى هذا تلائمت الاخبار ولم تختلف

Muhammad ibn al-Hasan said: “We have already clarified the explanation regarding reports of this kind, and in summary; if the entire disc (of the sun or moon) is eclipsed, then making up the eclipse prayer (qadah) is obligatory upon the one who missed it. But if the entire disc is not eclipsed and one misses the prayer, then there is no obligation to make it up. There is no contradiction among the reports. Nor does this contradict what was narrated by Ammar al-Sabati in the report we previously mentioned, in which he said that making up the prayer becomes necessary for one who was informed (of the eclipse) and still did not pray until the eclipse passed. The interpretation of that narration is that it applies when part of the disc is eclipsed and a person deliberately delayed the prayer then, in that case, he must make it up. We have only waived the obligation of making it up for the one, who was entirely unaware of the partial eclipse. Based on this, the reports are consistent and not contradictory.”

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنِ اَلْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ اَلْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ عَلَيْهِمُ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ:« اِنْكَسَفَتِ اَلشَّمْسُ فِي زَمَنِ رَسُولِ اَللَّهِ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَطَوَّلَ حَتَّى غُشِيَ عَلَى بَعْضِ اَلْقَوْمِ مِمَّنْ كَانَ وَرَاءَهُ مِنْ طُولِ اَلْقِيَامِ»

Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Mahbub, from Al-Hasan ibn Ali, from Ja’far ibn Muhammad, from Abdillah ibn Maymun al-Qaddah, from Imam Ja’far (a.s), from his father (a.s), from his forefathers, peace be upon them, who said: Imam al-Sadiq (a.s) said: “The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah (swt), may Allah (swt) bless him and his family, so He (saws) led the people in two rak‘ahs, and He (saws) prolonged (the prayer) until some of the people behind him lost consciousness, due to the length of the standing.”

احمد بن عن ابن ابي عمير عن جميل بن دراج عن ابي عبد الله عليه السلام قال وقت صلاة الكسوف في الساعة التي تنكسف عند طلوع الشمس وعند غروبها قال وقال أبو عبد الله عليه السلام هي فريضة

Ahmad from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Jamil ibn Darraj from Abu Abdillah (a.s), peace be upon him, who said: Imam al-Sadiq (a.s) said: “The time for the eclipse prayer is at the hour when the eclipse occurs, at sunrise and at sunset. He (narrator) said: “And Abu Abdillah (a.s), peace be upon him, said: ‘It is an obligation (faridah)’.”

اَلْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ اَلنَّضْرِ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ: اِنْكَسَفَ اَلْقَمَرُ وَ أَنَا عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ فَوَثَبَ وَ قَالَ« إِنَّهُ كَانَ يُقَالُ إِذَا اِنْكَسَفَ اَلْقَمَرُ وَ اَلشَّمْسُ فَافْزَعُوا إِلَى مَسَاجِدِكُمْ»

Al-Husayn ibn Saeed from al-Nadr from Asim from Abu Basir who said: The moon was eclipsed while I (Abu Basir) was with Abu Abdillah (a.s), peace be upon him, in the Month of Ramadan. So Imam (a.s) leapt up and said: “It used to be said: ‘When the moon and the sun are eclipsed, then hasten to your mosques’.”

اَلْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ اِبْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ صَلاَةِ اَلْكُسُوفِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَغِيبَ اَلشَّمْسُ وَ نَخْشَى فَوْتَ اَلْفَرِيضَةِ فَقَالَ« اِقْطَعُوهَا وَ صَلُّوا اَلْفَرِيضَةَ وَ عُودُوا إِلَى صَلاَتِكُمْ»

Al-Husayn ibn Saeed from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Abu Ayyub Ibrahim ibn Uthman from Abu Abdillah (a.s), peace be upon him, who said: I asked Imam al-Sadiq (a.s) about the eclipse prayer before the sun sets, and we fear missing the obligatory prayer. So Imam (a.s) said: “Cut it off, perform the obligatory prayer, and then return to your eclipse prayer.”

عَنْهُ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى اَلسَّابَاطِيِّ عَنِ اَلرِّضَا عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ صَلاَةِ اَلْكُسُوفِ تُصَلَّى جَمَاعَةً أَوْ فُرَادَى فَقَالَ« أَيَّ ذَلِكَ شِئْتَ»

From him, from Safwan, from Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Sabati, from Imam al-Ridha (a.s), peace be upon him, who said: I asked Imam al-Ridha (a.s) about the eclipse prayer, whether it is to be performed in congregation or individually. Imam (a.s) said: “Whichever of the two you wish.”

أَحْمَدُ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ اَلْحَكَمِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ صَلاَةِ اَلْكُسُوفِ فَقَالَ« عَشْرُ رَكَعَاتٍ وَ أَرْبَعُ سَجَدَاتٍ تَقْرَأُ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ مِثْلَ يَاسِينَ وَ اَلنُّورِ وَ يَكُونُ رُكُوعُكَ مِثْلَ قِرَاءَتِكَ وَ سُجُودُكَ مِثْلَ رُكُوعِكَ» قُلْتُ فَمَنْ لَمْ يُحْسِنْ يَاسِينَ وَ أَشْبَاهَهَا قَالَ« فَلْيَقْرَأْ سِتِّينَ آيَةً فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ فَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ اَلرُّكُوعِ فَلاَ يَقْرَأْ بِفَاتِحَةِ اَلْكِتَابِ» قَالَ« فَإِنْ أَغْفَلَهَا أَوْ كَانَ نَائِماً فَلْيَقْضِهَا»

Ahmad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Ali ibn Abi Hamzah from Abu Basir who said: I asked Imam (a.s) about the eclipse prayer. Imam (a.s) said: “Ten rak‘ahs and four prostrations. In each rak‘ah you recite like Surah ‘Yasin’ and Surah ‘al-Nur’, and your bowing (rukuh) should be like your recitation, and your prostration (sujud) like your bowing.” I asked: “What about someone, who does not know Surah ‘Yasin’ and similar (surahs)?” Imam (a.s) said: “Then let him recite sixty verses in each rak‘ah. When he raises his head from bowing, he should not recite Surah ‘al-Fatiha’.” Imam (a.s) said: “If he forgets it or was asleep, then let him make it up (qadah).”

وَ رَوَى عَلِيُّ بْنُ مَهْزِيَارَ قَالَ: كَتَبْتُ إِلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ وَ شَكَوْتُ إِلَيْهِ كَثْرَةَ اَلزَّلاَزِلِ فِي اَلْأَهْوَازِ وَ قُلْتُ تَرَى لِيَ اَلتَّحَوُّلَ عَنْهَا فَكَتَبَ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ« لاَ تَتَحَوَّلُوا عَنْهَا وَ صُومُوا اَلْأَرْبِعَاءَ وَ اَلْخَمِيسَ وَ اَلْجُمُعَةَ وَ اِغْتَسِلُوا وَ طَهِّرُوا ثِيَابَكُمْ وَ اُبْرُزُوا يَوْمَ اَلْجُمُعَةِ وَ اُدْعُوا اَللَّهَ فَإِنَّهُ يَدْفَعُ عَنْكُمْ» قَالَ فَفَعَلْنَا فَسَكَنَتِ اَلزَّلاَزِلُ

Ali ibn Mahziyar narrated: I wrote to Abu Ja’far (a.s), peace be upon him, and complained to Imam (a.s) about the frequent earthquakes in Ahwaz, and I asked: ‘Do you see that I should relocate from it (Ahwaz)?’ So Imam (a.s), peace be upon him, wrote: “Do not relocate from it. Fast on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and perform ghusl, purify your clothes, go out on Friday, and supplicate to Allah (swt), for indeed He (azj) will repel it from you.” He (Ali ibn Mahziyar) said: “So we did (as Imam (a.s) said), and the earthquakes subsided.”

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ اَلْكُوفِيِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اَللَّهِ بْنِ اَلْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ اَلْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنِ اِبْنِ يَقْطِينٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ:« مَنْ أَصَابَتْهُ زَلْزَلَةٌ فَلْيَقْرَأْ يَا مَنْ« يُمْسِكُ اَلسَّمٰاوٰاتِ وَاَلْأَرْضَ أَنْ تَزُولاٰ وَ لَئِنْ زٰالَتٰا إِنْ أَمْسَكَهُمٰا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ إِنَّهُ كٰانَ حَلِيماً غَفُوراً» صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ أَمْسِكْ عَنَّا اَلسُّوءَ« إِنَّكَ عَلىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ»» قَالَ« إِنَّ مَنْ قَرَأَهَا عِنْدَ اَلنَّوْمِ لَمْ يَسْقُطْ عَلَيْهِ اَلْبَيْتُ إِنْ شَاءَ اَللَّهُ تَعَالَى»

Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Mahbub from Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Kufi from Muhammad ibn Khalid from Ubaydullah ibn al-Husayn from Ali ibn al-Husayn from Ali ibn Abi Hamzah from Ibn Yaqtin who said: Abu Abdillah (a.s), peace be upon him, said: “Whoever is struck by an earthquake, let him recite: ‘O’ He who holds the heavens and the earth lest they cease to be, and if they were to cease, none could hold them after Him. Indeed, He is Forbearing, Forgiving” (Surah Fatir 35:41). Send blessings upon (Prophet) Muhammad (saws) and the family of Muhammad (saws), and withhold from us harm. Indeed, You are capable of all things (Surah Aal Imran 3:26).” Imam (a.s) also said: “Indeed, whoever recites it at bedtime, the house will not collapse upon him, Allah (a.s) willing.”
