Muhammad ibn Yaqub from Muhammad ibn Yahya from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Ismail from Abu Ismail al-Sarraj from Harun ibn Kharijah from Abu Abdillah (a.s), peace be upon him, who said: Imam al-Sadiq (a.s) said to me regarding the ‘Prayer of Gratitude’ (salat al-shukr): “When Allah (swt), Mighty and Majestic, bestows a blessing upon you, then pray two units (rak’ahs). In the first, recite the ‘Fatihat al-Kitab’ (Surah al-Fatihah) and ‘Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad’ (Surah Ikhlas) And in the second (rak’ah), recite the ‘Fatihat al-Kitab’ (Surah al-Fatihah) and ‘Qul Ya Ayyuha al-Kafirun’ (Surah al-Kafirun). In the first rak’ah, during your bowing (rukuh) and prostration (sujud), say: ‘All praise is due to Allah (swt) thanks, thanks, and praise.’ And in the second rak’ah, during your bowing and prostration, say: ‘All praise is due to Allah (swt) who answered my supplication and granted me my request.’”
