رَوَى اَلْعَلاَءُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا عَلَيْهِمَا اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ نَسِيَ أَنْ يَطُوفُ بَيْنَ اَلصَّفَا وَ اَلْمَرْوَةِ قَالَ «يُطَافُ عَنْهُ ».
Al-‘Ala’ narrated from Muhammad ibn Muslim, from one of the Imams (a.s): "I asked him about a man who forgot to perform the Sa’i (the walking) between Safa and Marwah. Imam (a.s) said: 'It can be performed on his behalf.'"
وَ سُئِلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ: عَنْ رَجُلٍ طَافَ بَيْنَ اَلصَّفَا وَ اَلْمَرْوَةِ سِتَّةَ أَشْوَاطٍ وَ هُوَ يَظُنُّ أَنَّهَا سَبْعَةٌ فَذَكَرَ بَعْدَ مَا أَحَلَّ وَ وَاقَعَ اَلنِّسَاءَ أَنَّهُ إِنَّمَا طَافَ سِتَّةً قَالَ «عَلَيْهِ بَقَرَةٌ يَذْبَحُهَا وَ يَطُوفُ شَوْطاً آخَرَ ».
Abu Abdullah (a.s) was asked about a man who performed six circuits (Ashwat) between Safa and Marwah, thinking they were seven, and later, after having become lawful (Halal) and engaging in relations with women, realized that he had only completed six. Imam (a.s) said: "He must sacrifice a cow and complete one more circuit (Shawt)."
ومن لم يدر ما سعى فليبتدئ السعي. ومن سعى بين الصفا والمروة ثمانية أشواط فعليه أن يعيد، وإن سعى بينهما تسعة أشواط فلا شئ عليه. وفقه ذلك أنه إذا سعى ثمانية أشواط يكون قد بدأ بالمروة وختم بها وكان ذلك خلاف السنة، وإذا سعى تسعة يكون قد بدأ بالصفا وختم بالمروة، ومن بدأ بالمروة قبل الصفا فعليه أن يعيد. ومن ترك شيئا من الرمل في سعيه فلا شئ عليه.
Whoever is uncertain about the number of circuits (Sa'i) performed should restart the Sa'i. If someone performs eight circuits between Safa and Marwah, they must repeat the Sa'i. However, if they perform nine circuits, there is no penalty upon them. The reasoning (Fiqh) behind this is that completing eight circuits means starting and ending at Marwah, which contradicts the Sunnah. On the other hand, performing nine circuits means starting at Safa and ending at Marwah, which aligns with the prescribed order. If someone begins at Marwah instead of Safa, they must repeat the Sa'i. Additionally, if someone omits some of the "raml" (specific vigorous walking) during their Sa'i, there is no penalty for that.
وَ رَوَى عَبْدُ اَلرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ اَلْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ أَبِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ: فِي رَجُلٍ سَعَى بَيْنَ اَلصَّفَا وَ اَلْمَرْوَةِ ثَمَانِيَةَ أَشْوَاطٍ فَقَالَ «إِنْ كَانَ خَطَأً طَرَحَ وَاحِداً وَ اِعْتَدَّ بِسَبْعَةٍ ». وَ فِي رِوَايَةِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا عَلَيْهِمَا اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ: «يُضِيفُ إِلَيْهَا سِتَّةً ».
Abdur Rahman ibn al-Hajjaj narrated from Abu Ibrahim (a.s) about a man who performed eight circuits (Sa'i) between Safa and Marwah. Imam (a.s) said: "If it was an error, he should disregard one circuit and count seven as complete." In another narration from Muhammad ibn Muslim, from one of the Imams (a.s), it is reported: "He should add six more circuits to complete it properly."
