۳۷۹. وَقَالَ (عليه ‏السلام): يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ الرِّزْقُ رِزْقَانِ: رِزْقٌ تَطْلُبُهُ، وَرِزْقٌ يَطْلُبُكَ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَأْتِهِ أَتَاكَ، فَلاَ تَحْمِلْ هَمَّ سَنَتِكَ عَلَى هَمِّ يَوْمِكَ! كَفَاكَ كُلُّ يَوْمٍ عَلَى مَا فيِهِ، فَإِنْ تَكُنِ السَّنَةُ مِنْ عُمُرِكَ فَإنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى سَيُؤْتِيكَ فِي كُلِّ غَدِ جَدِيدٍ مَا قَسَمَ لَكَ، وَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنِ السَّنَةُ مِنْ عُمُرِكَ فَمَا تَصْنَعُ بِالْهَمِّ لِمَا لَيْسَ لَكَ، وَلَنْ يَسْبِقَكَ إِلَى رِزْقِكَ طَالِبٌ، وَلَنْ يَغْلِبَكَ عَلَيْهِ غَالِبٌ، وَلَنْ يُبْطِئَ عَنْكَ مَا قَدْ قُدِّرَ لَكَ.

379. Amīr al-mu’minīn, peace be upon him, said: O’ son of Adam, livelihood is of two kinds: the livelihood which you seek and the livelihood which seeks you; if you do not reach it, it will come to you. Therefore, do not turn your one day’s worry into a year’s worry. Whatever you get every day should be enough for you for the day. If you have a whole year of your life even then Allāh, the Sublime, will give you every next day what He has destined as your share. If you do not have a year in your life then why should you worry for what is not for you. No seeker will reach your livelihood before you nor will anyone overpower you in the matter of livelihood. Similarly, whatever has been destined as your share will not be delayed for you.

قال السيد الرضي: وقد مضى هذا الكلام فيما تقدم من هذا الباب، إلاّ أنه هاهنا أوضح وأشرح، فلذلك كررناه على القاعدة المقررة في أول هذا الكتاب.

as-Sayyid ar-Raḍī says: This saying has already appeared elsewhere in this chapter except that here it is clearer and more detailed. This is why we have repeated it according to the principle laid down in the beginning of the book.

379. O fils d’Adam, les moyens de vivre sont de deux sortes: ceux que tu demandes et ceux qui te demandent, Si tu n’arrives pas à avoir la première sorte, tu finiras par acquérir la deuxième. N’accumule pas les soucis de subvenir aux besoins d’une année sur ceux de ton jour! Les vivres de chaque jour te sont suffisants. Si Dieu voulait que tu vives une année, Il pourvoirait chaque lendemain à tes besoin. Dans le cas contraire, tu n as pas à te soucier de ce qui ne t’appartient pas. Nul ne te devancera pour t'arracher ton pain quotidien. Ton destin ne tardera pas à s’accomplir.
