Zakat Paid to One Who is Found not to Be a Needy Person
3 Aḥadīth
Ḥadīth 1

1ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَمَّنْ ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) فِي رَجُلٍ يُعْطِي زَكَاةَ مَالِهِ رَجُلاً وَهُوَ يَرَى أَنَّهُ مُعْسِرٌ فَوَجَدَهُ مُوسِراً قَالَ لاَ يُجْزِئُ عَنْهُ.

1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from al-Husayn ibn ‘Uthman from the one whom he has mentioned who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who pays Zakat to a person whom as he sees is a needy person, but later finds out to be affluent. He (the Imam) said, ‘Such payment is not sufficient for Zakat.’”

Ḥadīth 2

2ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ جَمِيعاً عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنِ الأحْوَلِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) فِي رَجُلٍ عَجَّلَ زَكَاةَ مَالِهِ ثُمَّ أَيْسَرَ الْمُعْطَى قَبْلَ رَأْسِ السَّنَةِ قَالَ يُعِيدُ الْمُعْطِي الزَّكَاةَ.

2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan from all from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from al-Ahwal who has said the following: “About a man who pays his Zakat before due time then the recipient becomes affluent before due time (end of the year), abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Zakat payer must pay again.’”

Ḥadīth 3

3ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ أَبِي الْمَغْرَاءِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ إِنَّ الله تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى أَشْرَكَ بَيْنَ الأغْنِيَاءِ وَالْفُقَرَاءِ فِي الأمْوَالِ فَلَيْسَ لَهُمْ أَنْ يَصْرِفُوا إِلَى غَيْرِ شُرَكَائِهِمْ.

3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from abu al-Maghra’ who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Allah, most Blessed, most High, has made the affluent to share their wealth with the needy people; thus, they must not share it with others (affluent ones).”’
