Weeping and Appealing for One’s Needs in Salah (prayer)
5 Aḥadīth
Ḥadīth 1

1ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) يَنْبَغِي لِمَنْ يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ إِذَا مَرَّ بِآيَةٍ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ فِيهَا مَسْأَلَةٌ أَوْ تَخْوِيفٌ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ الله عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ خَيْرَ مَا يَرْجُو وَيَسْأَلَهُ الْعَافِيَةَ مِنَ النَّارِ وَمِنَ الْعَذَابِ.

1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘One, when reading from the Holy Quran, should, upon coming across a verse that speaks of prayer or warning, ask Allah for what is good that one hopes for and for safety from fire and torment.’”

Ḥadīth 2

2ـ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ بَيَّاعِ السَّابِرِيِّ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) أَ يَتَبَاكَى الرَّجُلُ فِي الصَّلاَةِ فَقَالَ بَخْ بَخْ وَلَوْ مِثْلَ رَأْسِ الذُّبَابِ.

2. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from Hammad ibn ‘Uthman from Sa‘id al- Bayya’ al-Sabiriy who has said the following: “I asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘Can a person weep during Salah (prayer)?’ The Imam replied, ‘It is a matter of great congratulations even if it (tears) is of the size of the head of a fly.’”

Ḥadīth 3

3ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَكُونُ مَعَ الإِمَامِ فَيَمُرُّ بِالْمَسْأَلَةِ أَوْ بِآيَةٍ فِيهَا ذِكْرُ جَنَّةٍ أَوْ نَارٍ قَالَ لاَ بَأْسَ بِأَنْ يَسْأَلَ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ وَيَتَعَوَّذَ فِي الصَّلاَةِ مِنَ النَّارِ وَيَسْأَلَ الله الْجَنَّةَ.

3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “I asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘What should a man who performs Salah (prayer) with an Imam do if they come across a verse that speaks of paradise or fire?’ The Imam said, ‘In such case (during prayer) he may ask Allah for protection against fire or for admission in paradise.’”

Ḥadīth 4

4ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنْ ذِكْرِ السُّورَةِ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ يَدْعُو بِهَا فِي الصَّلاَةِ مِثْلَ قُلْ هُوَ الله أَحَدٌ فَقَالَ إِذَا كُنْتَ تَدْعُو بِهَا فَلاَ بَأْسَ.

4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from ‘Ubayd ibn Zurarah who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about reading a chapter of the book in the form of an appeal for help in Salah (prayer) like Chapter 112. He (the Imam) said, ‘If you read it in the form of appeal for help it is not harmful.’”

Ḥadīth 5

5ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ كُلُّ مَا كَلَّمْتَ الله بِهِ فِي صَلاَةِ الْفَرِيضَةِ فَلاَ بَأْسَ.

5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from certain persons of his people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Whatever (words) with which you speak to Allah in Salah (prayer) is not harmful.’” (Ahadith 4-5 of this Chapter are best explained by fatwas.)
