Al-Kāfi - Volume 3 > Matters Necessary for Women during Hayd at the Times of Salah (prayer)
Hadith #1

1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ الْحَائِضِ تَطَهَّرُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَتَذْكُرُ الله قَالَ أَمَّا الطُّهْرُ فَلاَ وَلَكِنَّهَا تَتَوَضَّأُ فِي وَقْتِ الصَّلاَةِ ثُمَّ تَسْتَقْبِلُ الْقِبْلَةَ وَتَذْكُرُ الله.

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from Zurarah from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about a woman experiencing Hayd (menses) who takes Ghusl (bath) on Friday and speaks of Allah. He (the Imam) said, ‘Ghusl (bath) is unhelpful but she can take Wudu’ at the time for Salah (prayer), then face the direction of Makkah and speak of Allah.”’



Hadith #2

2ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ وَحَمَّادٍ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ تَتَوَضَّأُ الْمَرْأَةُ الْحَائِضُ إِذَا أَرَادَتْ أَنْ تَأْكُلَ وَإِذَا كَانَ وَقْتُ الصَّلاَةِ تَوَضَّأَتْ وَاسْتَقْبَلَتِ الْقِبْلَةَ وَهَلَّلَتْ وَكَبَّرَتْ وَتَلَتِ الْقُرْآنَ وَذَكَرَتِ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ.

2. Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan from ibn abu ‘Umayr and Hammad from Mu‘awiyah ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘A woman experiencing Hayd (menses) can take Wudu’ when she wants to eat, and when it is time for Salah (prayer) take Wudu’, face the direction of Ka’bah say Tahlil, (no one deserves worship except Allah). Takbir (Allah is great beyond description) and recite from al-Quran and speak of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious.’”



Hadith #3

3ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ مَرْوَانَ عَنْ زَيْدٍ الشَّحَّامِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) يَقُولُ يَنْبَغِي لِلْحَائِضِ أَنْ تَتَوَضَّأَ عِنْدَ وَقْتِ كُلِّ صَلاَةٍ ثُمَّ تَسْتَقْبِلَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَتَذْكُرَ الله مِقْدَارَ مَا كَانَتْ تُصَلِّي.

3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from ‘Ammar ibn Marwan from Zayd al-Shahham who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, say, ‘A woman experiencing Hayd (menses) should take Wudu’ at the time of each Salah (prayer), face the direction of Ka’bah and speak of Allah for a period of time equal to a period of time Salah (prayer) is performed.’”



Hadith #4

4ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ جَمِيعاً عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ إِذَا كَانَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ طَامِثاً فَلاَ تَحِلُّ لَهَا الصَّلاَةُ وَعَلَيْهَا أَنْ تَتَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَ الصَّلاَةِ عِنْدَ وَقْتِ كُلِّ صَلاَةٍ ثُمَّ تَقْعُدَ فِي مَوْضِعٍ طَاهِرٍ وَتَذْكُرَ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَتُسَبِّحَهُ وَتُحَمِّدَهُ وَتُهَلله كَمِقْدَارِ صَلاَتِهَا ثُمَّ تَفْرُغُ لِحَاجَتِهَا.

4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father and Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan all from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from Zurarah who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Performing Salah (prayer) during a woman’s experiencing Hayd (menses) is not permissible. However, she should take Wudu’ as it is taken for Salah (prayer) at the time of each Salah (prayer), sit in clean place and speak of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, glorify Him, praise Him and say Tahlil, (no one deserves worship except Allah) for a period of time to perform Salah (prayer), and then go for her other needs.’”
